Memoirs of
Johnnie Levi Raines

Johnnie Levi Raines was born to the late Frank & Rebecca Raines Sr. on September 19, 1944 and departed this life on Thursday June 26, 2015 while resting in his sleep awaking in the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus and Heavenly Father God as he gave his heart to the Lord at a very early age.

Johnnie was the seventh child and fourth son of ten children. He was a very fun loving yet serious child growing up with a great respect for authority and love of the Bible. Johnnie loved his family and would do whatever he could for his Dad & Mom as well as sisters and brothers. He often talked of getting in trouble because of his younger brother whether guilty or not. A very studious child graduating with honors from Ballard Hudson High Macon GA in 1962, he later attended Morehouse College, in addition to Bible seminary after servicing in the US Air Force with an honorable discharge and full benefits. During his lifetime, he was an accomplished pianist and organist with the ability to both play and read music and follow by "ear" the singer. He was an ordained Minister of the Gospel and at one time preached and taught actively many Bible studies. It was not unusual to see him in a revival service every night. Throughout Johnnie's life he was plagued with various illnesses and as such lived most of his adult life in the VA Hospital. He was able to finish out his life living at Arcola Rehabilitation and Nursing facility taking an active part in Bible study, Bingo, Men's Club, various outings with his sister Fredicia such as major league baseball games, picnics at his brother's church Samuel and worship services. Whoever encountered Johnnie always left with a warm feeling inside. He was briefly married and to that union was born a son Paul Raines.

Johnnie is survived by 3 brothers, Rev. Frank (Marion) Raines Jr. of Michigan, Rev. Roland ( Jimmie) Raines, Arkansas, Dea. Samuel (wife Sheila) Raines, Maryland and 4 sisters Mrs. Trudie (Alton) Rozar, California, Mrs. Versie Cofield, Georgia, Mrs. Sallie (Darryl) Humble Illinois and devoted sister, caregiver and legal Guardian, Minister Fredicia (Wilbert) Hardnett of Maryland. One sister in law, Mrs. Louise Raines, California and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in life separation by his sister Rebecca Burch & brother George Raines in addition to his parents.
