John Henry Young, 64, of Clinton, Maryland.

John Henry Young of Clinton, Maryland transitioned on Thursday, May 10, 2023 at the Forestville Healthcare Center.  John was 64 years old. He previously lived in Waldorf, Maryland.

John was born on November 9, 1958, to George Paul and Margarite Marie Young of Hughesville, Maryland.  He was the first of seven children. John attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Thomas Stone High School.  He also attended Charles County Community College for a short period of time before entering the U.S. Army on November 15, 1977.  John was Honorable Discharged on March 13, 1992.  After leaving the military, he began working at Lincoln Technical Institute. He worked at the Charles County Board of Education School System as an instructor. John taught HVAC at the Vo-Tech Center and the Center for Employment Training for numerous years.  He enjoyed teaching and taking his students into competitions.  John was well liked by his students, colleagues, and friends.

As a child, John loved to play baseball.  He played for the Hughesville Mustangs with his two younger brothers, George and Joseph (Ronnie) and was coached by our Dad.  John was an excellent pitcher. He had one mean curve ball. In his teens, he played for the Bryantown Raiders.  In his later years, John loved to travel. He made regular visits to Ireland to visit his in-laws. He went to New York, Maine, New Jersey, and several other states to show his wife his home.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Kelleher, parents, George and Margarite Young, brother, Pernell Young and in-laws, Frankie and Malachy Kelleher.

John is survived by his brothers; George, Joseph, Wendell and Garnell, one sister, Glenda, several sisters-in-law; Beverly Young, Sonya Young, Roselyn Young, Dorothy Kelleher, Anne Marie Kelleher and Louise Kelleher, two brothers-in-law, Bill and Rick. He has three surviving aunts, Alberta Young, Alice Young, Elizabeth Edelen, a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins.

Johnny, as known by his family and friends, was a bright light in our lives. He was a terrific brother and a great friend and uncle. He will be truly missed.

Friends may visit with the family Thursday, June 1st from 10am until time of funeral service at 11am in The Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, 3439 Livingston Road Indian Head, MD 20640. Interment immediately to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, MD.
