Obituary

Ford, John Lewis Sr. (age 74) of Waldorf, Maryland.

John Lewis Ford, Sr. was born in Washington, D.C. on August 3, 1939 to the late Leo and the late Malinda Ford.

John, who was affectionately known to family as "Jinksey," was educated in and graduated from the District of Columbia Public Schools. He was employed by D.C. Public Schools as an Engineer prior to working with Bell Atlantic (now Verizon). After many years of dedicated service, he retired in 1999 as a First Level Supervisor.

It was during John's employment with Bell Atlantic that he met Diane Foye, who was also an employee of the Company. A friendship began that ultimately led to marriage on March 6, 1980. Showing a dedication to children, John and Diane became Foster Parents and opened their home and heart to children for twelve years.

John had a great sense of humor but also could be a source of encouragement and wisdom. There were many simple things in life that gave him enjoyment such as his love of all of sports including wrestling, boxing and football, fishing, playing cards, and oh, how he loved his food. He enjoyed everything, but his favorite had to be pigfeet, chitterlings and "Johnny Boys" ribs!

John was a family man who appreciated his wife and children. He also enjoyed attending family reunions where he could socialize since he liked being around people. However, not to be forgotten, was John's tremendous sense of style, where he delighted in looking "sharp" in his many, many suits.

On Sunday, January 26, 2014 while in Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, MD, John quietly entered eternal rest where he joins his parents and other family members who have preceded him in death.

Left to cherish many memories are his wife, Diane, children, John, Jr., Michael, Andrae, Linda, Gail and Teri; fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; son-in-law; Tony, daughter-in-law; Lawanda, sisters; Gladys, Pauline, Belauh, Shirley and Dorothy, brothers; Walter, Francis Cecil and Jean, sisters-in-law, Dot and Carol, brother-in-law; Ronnie, aunt; Arlene and a host of other relatives and friends.

His viewing will be held from 10am until time of service 11am on Monday, February 3rd in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640.

Interment Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Marbury, MD.
