John Herman Lee was called home to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from his home in McConchie, MD.
He was born to the late Winnie Maryann Lee Fox on June 24, 1943.
John graduated from Bel Alton High School and began his college studies at Maryland State College (now University of Maryland Eastern Shore).
While growing up John was given the nickname "Poogie", family and friends called him by nickname for many years, especially his grandmother "Ma Ma Lee".
John served in the national guard for two years.
His family began with the marriage of Elva Lee and from that loving union Gail and Melissa were born.
John began his career as a salesman at Korvette's department store. He took his charmful salesman personality and moved on to Sears department store. John decided to start a painting business and met some wonderful clients along the way. One client moved to Hawaii, and he talked with them regularly. John retired as a Facilities Administrator with the Institute of Defense Analyses in 2014.
John looked forward to traveling and vacationing with his daughters Gail and Melissa. The trips included Ocean City, MD, Disney World, and various amusement parks. In 2008, John married Mary Martin. John and Mary traveled for anniversaries and birthdays at the casino, beaches, most memorable Jamaica and San Diego, California. John looked forward to the summers as his grandsons Brandon and Cedric would visit and took trips to various places.
John enjoyed watching his favorite tv shows, Let's Make a Deal, Price is Right, and Family Feud. During the baseball and football season, his favorite teams were the Commanders and Washington Nationals. Harlem Nights and Friday were his favorite movies, and he remembered all the lines in the movies. John and his daughter Gail had a special interest in classic cars.
The proudest and most enjoyable moments of his life were spending time with all his family and friends. John was not only a dad, husband, and friend, he was a very devoted, caring, and spiritual person.
John was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic church and assisted with offertory during mass. In addition, volunteering with his wife, Mary with her many church activities.
John is preceded in death by his mother, Winnie Maryann Lee Fox, grandparents Joseph and Mary C. Lee, uncles, Joseph Charles Lee, Norman Douglas Lee, aunt, Sarah Virginia Woodland.
John leaves to cherish his memories, devoted wife, Mary T. Lee, daughters, Gail M. Lee, Melissa M. Lee, grandsons, Cedric A. Lee, Brandon N. Lee, sister-in-law, Doris Martin, and a host of family and friends.
His viewing will be held from 9:00am until Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am on Friday, February 28, 2025 11:00am, St. Catherine's Catholic Church, 7865 Port Tobacco Road, Port Tobacco, Maryland 20677. Interment Church Cemetery
