John Wesley Henson, Jr. (Wes) was born on June 3, 1949 to Mr. John Wesley Henson, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mildred Burton Henson at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. He was the oldest of 4 children?one sister, Lisa, preceded him in death.

Wesley was confirmed at an early age at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, MD. He grew up in Baltimore and graduated from Baltimore City College High School, Class of 1967. After high school, he attended Morgan State College with a major in Political Science.

After college he was employed as a Drug Addictions Counselor for Project Adapt. After moving to Virginia, he sold medical supplies to doctors and hospitals for a few years. He then decided to go into business for himself and became an Independent Insurance Broker. He brokered for several insurance companies including Metropolitan Life, American General, Fidelity, Provident Life and Primerica Life.

Wesley was known for his great intellect. He was an avid reader and the ultimate researcher. There was barely a subject that he could not expound on. He was often referred to as Professor or Dr. Wes. He was a great writer and one of his dreams was to write several books upon retirement. He enjoyed sports, jogging or walking daily, classical music and spending quiet time at home with his family. He never met a stranger and enjoyed communicating and exchanging ideas with people of all walks of life.

Wesley had a heart of gold. He always put the needs of others before his, almost to a fault. He never complained and he did not like to hear others complain. He felt it was a waste of energy that could be used more positively.

On August 15, 1981, Wesley was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Dorothy (Dottie) House. This union was blessed with 2 beautiful daughters?Ashley and Dana. He took his marriage vows seriously and was a devoted husband and father.

Wesley departed this earthy life on Saturday, August 9th at the Fairfax Hospital after a short illness. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories his wife of 27 years, Dottie, two daughters?Ashley & Dana, father ? John Wesley Henson, Sr. a brother, Dr. Arnold (Teresa) Henson of Laguna Beach, CA, a sister Terri Henson of Owings Mills, MD, an uncle Solomon (Shirley) Henson, a mother-in-law, Margaret House, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Lee and Helen Jackson, two brothers-in-law, Alexander (Sandra) House, Robert (Mina) House, an aunt, Cleo Bost, three special nieces, Monique & Marie Sylla & Germaine Lee; two special nephews, Andrew Henson & Barry Lee, as well as several other nieces and nephews, three special friends?Joseph Thompson, Joseph Muie & Webster Smith and a host of other relatives and friends who loved him dearly and will sorely miss him.

Wesley leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and nobility, which will forever be instilled in his children.

His Viewing will be held on Friday, August 15, 2008, 11:00am until time of Service, 12:00 noon at Greater Little Zion Baptist Church, 10185 Zion Drive, Fairfax, Virginia 22032. Interment Private. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Pomonkey, Maryland.
