John Francis Gross, 77 of Oxon Hill, Maryland.
John Francis Gross was born in Indian Head, Maryland on November 14, 1943, to Alice Newman and Richard Page. He was nurtured and raised by his great grandparents, Mary and Richard Gross.
John attended Charles County Public Schools graduating from Pomonkey High School, June 1962. After graduating, he entered the United States Army, October 29, 1962. His Military Occupational Specialty "MOS" was in Electronics. As an Electronic Technician, one of his tours of duty for a stint of time, was in Hawaii. John was honorably discharged, October 11, 1965, from the United States Army Personnel Center in Oakland, California. After leaving the Army, he started his civilian career at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, Maryland. While working on the base, he made life-long friends, to include his former wife, Ella Jo Gross. John and Ella were the proud parents of two children, Selina and Christopher "Chris" born to their union. After 35 years of government service, John eventually retired from the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC.
John was a devoted father. He enjoyed fixing all things electronic, traveling, sports, spending time with his grandkids, and reading about different life topics such as politics, religion, health and investing. John was an avid stamp and coin collector as well as a philanthropist, giving to organizations such as the Martin Luther King Memorial, local fire fighters, children's nonprofits, and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, just to name a few.
John Francis Gross, a father, electrician by trade, investor, philanthropist and resident of Oxon Hill, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 19, 2021.
John is survived by two children; daughter, Selina Gross; son, Christopher Gross; former wife, Ella Gross, four granddaughters, Shaharazade Gross, Christen Gross, Lauren Gross, Ayanna Gross, other relatives and friends.
Although John, started his life with a sparse upbringing by his great grandparents,
he strived to give his kids and grandkids
a better life experience.
His surviving family, in memory of John
takes forth his legacy.
Viewing, 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 29, 2021 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 30 Mattingly Avenue, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment, 1:00 p.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.
