GRAY, JOHN CHRISTOPHER (AGE 61) OF BRYANS ROAD, MARYLAND
John "Chris" Gray was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on October 28, 2023 at his home in Bryans Road, Maryland at age 61.
Chris was born in Washington, DC and spent his childhood and young adulthood in Woodland Village, a neighborhood in Indian Head, Maryland. It was there where he met the love of his life, Diane, affectionately known as "Spanky", with whom he shared a loving relationship with for almost 40 years.
A hard-working man, Chris was employed at the Department of Commerce for over 35 years. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, going to car shows, and being out in nature. His daughters fondly remember all of the lessons he taught them, ranging from cooking and baking to teaching them how to shoot. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and loved go-go music.
Chris was blessed with a large family who loved him dearly. His memory will live on through his surviving family members: his Mother, Adelaide Datcher; Children: Brittney Gray (Jarel), Jasmine Gray (David), Christian Gray and Zariah Gray; Siblings: Deborah Dixon, Ivan Gray (Feley), Gail Thomas (Leslie) and Ira McNeil; Nieces: Lynn, Erica (Rob), Shanita, Joyce, Ariel; Nephews: Leroy "Link" (Lael), Ian, Evan, CJ and Jekko.
He leaves extended family members to cherish his memory including his Mother-in-law, Betty Wills; Siblings-in-law: Avery Wills (Lawanda), Sharon Wyatt-Davis (Bob), Lonnie Wills, and Tony Wills, Nieces: De'Ana (Sean), Jamia, Emani and Kiara; Nephews: Avery "AJ", Thomas, and Camren, along with a host of many more cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Datcher and his wife, Diane "Spanky."
His viewing will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, November 10th in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00am on Saturday, November 11th at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 30 Mattingly Avenue, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
