IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joe Levon
Parrish
November 3, 1955 – July 17, 2021
Joe LeVon Parrish, 65 of Fort Washington, Maryland.
Obituary
Joe LeVon Parrish was born on November 3, 1955 in Suffolk, Virginia, the son of the late Joe Cornenelius Parrish and Susie Ophelia King who preceded him in death at an early age. He was raised by Josephine and Solomon Knight. He had two sisters, Ruth Eloise Harris and Bernita Parrish-Sanders, and one brother, Henry Lee Parrish who also preceded him in death. Joe peacefully passed into eternity at his home in Fort Washington, Maryland on July 17, 2021, with his devoted wife, Justine and dedicated daughter, Tonyita by his side.
He received his early education in Suffolk Virginia Public Schools and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1973. After high school he attended Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia.
After college, he moved to Washington, DC and was employed at the Wonder Bread Company for eleven years. During his time there he met his loving wife, Justine. They were married for 37 years and have three children, Leslie, Darrell and Tonyita. After leaving the Wonder Bread Company Joe worked for the federal government at the Architect of the Capitol where most of his time was spent in the Canon Labor Room. During his time there he received various commendations and awards for his outstanding service. He was respected and enjoyed by his supervisors and peers during his tenure. After 31 years of federal service, he retired July 10, 2021 as an Assistant Supervisor.
Joe accepted Christ into his life in August 2008 at Victory Christian Ministries International in Suitland, Maryland.
In his leisure time Joe loved playing slot machines and Keno. He also enjoyed blasting old school music by his favorite singers; Earth Wind and Fire, Curtis Mayfield, and The Isley Brothers. He liked to dance and was known for his favorite 2-step move with an occasional spin. He enjoyed playing Chess, working jig-saw puzzles, and was an "over the top" Spades player. (He would make you cry if you did not know how to play the game or if you reneged).
Joe was an avid sport enthusiast who loved all the Washington sports teams including the Redskins football team, Nationals baseball team, and the Wizards basketball team. He had a special fondness for the Fort Washington Canons Boys and Girls club because his grandchildren played various sports with them.
Joe loved his family and friends especially his wife Justine who he adored and affectionately called, "Jessie". He was like a big kid at heart who was the life of the party who loved to laugh, have fun, and make everyone around him laugh. His memory will live on with the many people he touched. Although we will miss him, we are sure he is having fun with his family and friends that preceded him jamming to some funk.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Justine Parrish; three children, Leslie Garner, Sr. (Remanda), Darrell Garner, and Tonyita Muschette (Brian); nine grandchildren, Dalaney Wims, Justene Garner, Keandra Garner, Keara Garner, Darrell Taylor, Leslie Garner, Jr., Darrell (DJ) Garner, Jr., Christian Muschette and Bryce Muschette; three great-grandchildren, Mary Garner, Joshua Mosby, Jr., and Carter Robinson; his brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
