Jesse Phillips of White Plains, MD transitioned on September 21, 2022.
Jesse was born Saturday, January 13, 1940 to Rosa Lee Phillips in Demopolis, Alabama. He was affectionately nicknamed "DaTah". Jesse was raised by his grandparents Jessie and Eliza Phillips. He attended US Jones High School and graduated in May 1959. During high school, Jesse played football and wad on the track and field team. Upon graduating, Jesse joined the US Army, where he served for 23 years, retiring in November 1982. While in the US Army, Jesse was stationed in Germany, Fort Meade, MD and the White House Garage in Washington, DC where he was a chauffeur for the United States President's staff. His nickname at this job was "Dusty". In 1964, he met the love of his life Lucinda. On March 19, 1966 Jesse and Lucinda were joined in Holy Matrimony and lived happily for 56 years until he departed his life.
Jesse was a faithful member of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church for the last 29 years. Jesse enjoyed traveling and being around family. He never missed a high school or family reunion. He was the "life of the Party" at all of these events. His smile was infectious.
Left to cherish his memory is he devoted wife Lucinda, children: Kenneth (Tanisha), Lurranda Rene. Grandchildren: Kendra, Sherrod and Kendall. Close cousins: James (Marlene) Greene, Edward (Betty) Woods, Caleb Thurman Jr. Faithful niece: Linda Faye Watkins and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Thursday, October 6, 2022 in The Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, located 3439 Livingston Road Indian Head, MD 20640. The viewing will be from 11:00 am until the time of funeral service at 12 noon. Interment immediately following at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
