Obituary

Jesse Harrison Colbert was born in Chapel Hill, Maryland, Prince George's County on July 5, 1938 to the late William Harrison Colbert and Annie Elizabeth (Tolson) Colbert.  He was the second of six children. He answered his call and departed peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at his residence in Lanham, Maryland.

Jesse graduated from Fairmount Heights High School in 1956. Soon after, he met the love of his life Michele Eunice Manning. They were joined in holy matrimony February 2, 1957. Out of that union was born their daughter, Yvonne Michele Colbert.

Jesse was a hard worker. He worked at Sears and Roebuck Company for a period of time. He worked at the Indian Head Naval Base in the Transportation Department hauling hazardous waste.  He worked part-time as Disc Jockey ("JC from DC"), also known as ("J Cole with Soul") for WOOK and WOL radio stations in the District of Columbia.  He worked for various trucking companies - O'BOYLE Tank Line, American Tank Line and Delta Chemical until 1986. Jesse then started a successful trucking company, A & JC Transportation with cousin Allen Colbert where they sub-contracted with American Tank Lines and Delta Chemical. Jesse's commitment to Michele forced him to retire until her passing in 2015.
Jesse was a faithful and dedicated lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church. He served on the Usher Board, Men of Grace, Grief Ministry of Grace, Chapel Hill Association and wherever he was needed.

His favorite past time was spending time with family and friends, often showing his dance skills at family gatherings. He also loved classic cars and would often go to car shows. When he and Michele were younger, they would often be seen at Buds Creek Race Way watching and/or participating in the race. His love for his favorite sports teams definitely were Redskin/Commanders, Nationals and Wizards. Jesse was seldom seen without a smile on his face and always had a kind word to share. He never knew a stranger. Everyone he met was treated as a friend.
Jesse was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Michele, mother Elizabeth, father Harrison,  sister Mildred Waring, and grandsons Kyle and Christian. He leaves to cherish his memories to daughter Yvonne; grandson Michael and granddaughter Asyia,  and great-grandson Mason, two sisters Agnes Washington and Sherrie (Dimple) Walker; two brothers Vernon (Denise) Colbert and Raymond (Pastor Vernona) Colbert, cherished friend Viola Henderson and a host of  nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

On Saturday morning, February 18th, Jesse Colbert peacefully transitioned to eternal rest.  His Viewing will be 9:30 a.m. until time of Service,  11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Grace United Methodist Church, 11700 Old Fort Road, Fort Washington, Maryland 20744.  Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, Maryland 20735.
