Obituary

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, Jeanette Elizabeth Small Montgomery (age 80) of Washington, DC, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest.  She is survived by her loving family.

Jeannette was born July 25, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA.  She was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated from John Bartrum High School in June 1960.  She briefly attended Philadelphia General Hospital, School of Xray from 1960-1961, then went to work at the City of Philadelphia in the personnel department for one year and then the Department of Welfare Youth Conservation Services.

In 1965, she relocated to Chapel Hill, MD and worked for the Food and Drug Administration from 1966-1968. Afterwards, she began working for the Department of Bureau of Labor Statistics, where she would retire in 2009 after 40 years of service. She also joined Blacks in Government in 1966 serving as the secretary and recorder.

Jeannette is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Sherman and Jennie Small, and her infant son, Jason Montgomery.

She is survived by her daughters, Terri Lee (Shaun) and Jennifer Montgomery, and her 7 grandchildren, whom she absolutely loved and adored, Darriel, Jay, Danté, Kiara, Xaviar, Jasmine, and Jaedyn, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jeannette always held a special place in her heart for dear friend Josephine Price. Her "Philadelphian Crew" are Beverly Yates, Patricia Cuffee and Rose Smith. She always said, "We knew each other before we knew who we were." She wants you to know, even though we didn't talk a lot, you all have always been there for her.

Jeannette's Viewing will be held from 10:00 am until time of Service 11:00 am, Friday, August 26, 2022 at Grace United Methodist Church, 11700 Old Fort Road, Fort Washington, Maryland 20744.
