Obituary

Jean Joyce Brown, the daughter of the late William H. and Beatrice "Bird" Brown was born September 24, 1933. She went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2012. Jean was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and relocated to Camden, New Jersey at an early age. Upon retirement, Jean moved to Swan Point, Maryland to live with her devoted daughter Dionne.

Jean was a devout Christian and faithful member of St. John Pentecostal Church in Camden, New Jersey. During her time of service at St. John's, Jean was installed as a Mother of the Church, received a Certificate of Recognition for "Outstanding Service, Commitment and Dedication…" and received a Missionary License under the auspices of Faith Tabernacle Church of the Living God. Upon relocation to Maryland, Jean attended First Baptist Church of Waldorf, Waldorf, Maryland, until her declining health prevented her from doing so.

Jean held a few different positions throughout her career but she found her calling in caring for the aged. She was employed as a Geriatric Nurse's Assistant at Manor Care Nursing Home (New Jersey) where she dedicated many years of service to caring for the needs of her elderly patients. Jean carried her passion for the elderly into her retirement years by becoming a Private Duty Caregiver to families needing assistance with their aging loved ones.

Jean had a vibrant personality and wonderful sense of humor. Her love of life was evident to all who knew her well. Jean was honest, direct and courageous in the face of adversity. Her children and grandchildren were a constant source of pride and joy. Two of her most favorite things were beautiful flowers and stuffed animals. She loved watching old westerns which she referred to as "bang, bang, shoot'em up" movies. On Sunday mornings, Jean loved to watch Bobby Jones Gospel.

Jean leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Carolyn Jackson, William "Skippy" Singletary, Charles "Chuck" Singletary (Mabel), Walter James (Annette) and Dionne James; eleven grandchildren, Lynette Jackson, Preston "Tony" Jackson, Tyana Singletary, Taura Waller, Ashley Singletary, Aja Singletary, Sylk Singletary, Charles "Chucky" Singletary, Charnelle Singletary, Gregory James and Alyssa James; one great grandchild, Payton Waller; one sister, Ernestine "Tina" Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Brown and Rose Quarles; Stephany Singletary; Paula Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
