IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jasmine Gloria
Nance
October 17, 1931 – November 19, 2018
Jasmine Gloria Nance was born on October 17, 1931, to Fred and Hattie Conner in Elbert, West Virginia. Jasmine attended Gary District High School in Elbert, West Virginia. She was an honor student and received her diploma in May 1943. She grew up in a household with eleven siblings. She was raised in the church where her father was a Deacon, under the leadership of Bishop Posey Diamond Smith.
On October 27, 1956, she married the love of her life, Eppienoise Nance ("Pete") in West Virginia. Shortly afterwards, the couple relocated to Washington D.C. They were blessed with five beautiful children: Stephanie, Angela, Sandy, Bryan and Reginald. Jasmine was a devoted wife and loving mother.
After Eppienoise's unexpectant death at the young age of 47, due to complications from a surgery, Jasmine was faced with raising five children on her own. Her strong faith in God is what gave her the strength to, not only raise her children, but to also excel in life. She dedicated her life to raising her children and when the time came she also helped raise her grandchildren.
Jasmine had the hardest job in the world, which is being a homemaker. She was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of her family and demanded excellence from everyone. She taught each person who entered her home the true meaning of unconditional love and "right from wrong." Jasmine was known for speaking in parables; for example, "a hard head makes a soft behind" or "enough is enough and too much is nasty" and her favorite "God don't like ugly." Jasmine's love and commitment to everyone she knew was based on the love that God had shown her. She would always say, "I wouldn't turn my back on the Lord for nothing."
Jasmine was a mother to many others and affectionately known as "Mama Nance." She really enjoyed cooking for everyone and on Sundays, she kept a house full of people. She had a loving and kind spirit and nothing brought her more joy than to make people laugh. In her leisure time she enjoyed doing hair, crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Holy Temple Church of Christ for many years under the late Bishop Joseph Weathers. She served on the Amalgamated Choir, Willing Workers, Hospitality Club, Vacation Bible School and the October Club. Jasmine's greatest passion was singing on the Amalgamated choir and one of her greatest joys was singing her favorite song "Bright Side."
On November 19, 2018, after battling Alzheimer's for 12 years, our beloved angel, Jasmine Nance, answered a call from her Heavenly Father for an offer she just couldn't refuse. She had earned her rest with Him.
Jasmine was preceded in death by her husband Eppienoise Nance and daughter Stephanie Nance-Plater. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Angela Yates (David), Sandy Thomas (Elton), Bryan Nance (Valerie) and Reggie Nance (Serina); son-in-law: Tyrone Plater; her grandchildren: Charles Holloway, III, Shameka Ainsworth (Dewayne), David Yates, Jr. (Ramona), Sheron Thornton (Arvid), Derron Thomas (Brandi), Ciera Scott, Ortee Scott, Lakeisha Nance, Jasmine Alexander (Marc), Blayre Nance, Endia Thomas, Angela Nance, Bryan Nance, Jr., Isaiah Nance, Xavier Nance, Erica Riggins, Regel Turner, Jr. (Brittany), Marcus Turner (Shenee), and Conrad Etchi; great-grandchildren: Dontrez Yates, Daunyae Jacobs, Nycere Jacobs, Kaliyah Nance, Ariana Yates, Gabrielle Yates, Armonte Yates, Nevaeh Yates, Malcolm Yates and Jesci Thomas; brother: Donald Conner, Sr. (Armizetta), sister: Sybil Jackson; brother-in-law: Walter Robinson, Sr.; sisters-in-law: Carolyn Conner, Shirley Conner, and Liz Nance; Goddaughters: Rhonda Poles, Renita Jackson and Dechanta Shelton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
