Janice Anderson-Hopkins, Age 71 of Waldorf, Maryland.
Obituary
Janice Anderson-Hopkins was born to Clyde James Anderson and Theresa Price Stover on February 4,1945 in Washington, DC. Janice spent much of her childhood in the loving arms of her paternal grandmother Wilhelmenia Anderson or GaGa, as she was affectionately known. She had a wonderful childhood filled with fun and laughter with her sister and two brothers. She met her future husband Stanley Hopkins as a teenager but had no idea, at that time, they would exchange marital vows years later. Janice graduated from Dunbar Senior High School in the heart of Washington DC. After obtaining her Associate's Degree at Strayer Business School, Janice immediately went to work and entered the world of Advertising Sales and Graphic Design at the Washington Post from 1974-2001. Following retirement, she kept busy working at the Federal Communications Commission (2003-2005) and Cedar Hill Cemetery (2006-2008).
Janice was a woman who possessed a graceful demeanor. She always maintained a calm and elegant spirit. She was a good listener, knowing when to speak and when to remain silent but her smirk, when irritated, was infamous. In her life, Janice loved several things. She loved her family and always made herself available to celebrate with or care for loved ones. Janice was a great hand dancer; you could always find her at a family event on the dance floor. Finally, she was passionate about playing bid whist. She was never far from a deck of cards and always ready to play. However, her favorite day of the week was Sunday. Janice was a member in good and regular standing at the Grace United Methodist Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. For over 16 years, she faithfully served the church in various roles such as: communion steward, trustee and bereavement coordinator.
Years later, Janice and Stanley found one another again, dated for a time; and at the tender age of 52, they were married on March 24,1997. Janice loved Stanley with every breathe in her body and she was the love of his life. Unfortunately, Stanley left his beloved far too soon in 2007. However, he remained the apple of Janice's eye. Janice moved forward, continuing to support her church, spending time with family, friends and neighbors while enjoying retirement. After a long prolong illness, God rocked Janice to sleep in his tender arms on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, Maryland.
Janice leaves to mourn her sister Deborah Anderson-Smith, two brothers Vincent and Edward Hunter and a brother-in-law Michael Smith. Her nieces and nephews: LaTondra Anderson-Kinley, Domita Hunter, Myeisha Anderson, Terrisha Hunter, Da'laja, Shawn, Jordan and Jeremiah Reddrick, Karmia Harris, Semera and Antoine Pierce, Dejah Williams, Nyah Anderson and a host of cousins and other family members to include the beloved members of Grace United Methodist Church.
We look forward to the day when we will unite with Janice and all the beloved saints of God in New Jerusalem.
