Obituary

James Michael Williams, age 61, of Port Tobacco, Maryland

James Michael "Mike" Williams was born on December 12, 1962 at Physician's Memorial Hospital in La Plata, MD.   Mike, as he was affectionately known, was the youngest of five to the late George Williams Sr. and Margaret Simms Williams.

Mike transitioned to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at MedSTAR Southern Maryland Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr and Margaret Williams; sister: Margaret "Fluggie"; Godmother: Delores Jamieson; nephew in law: Delonta, and love of his life, Donna Hemsley. Mike and Donna didn't have any children together. However, they had an everlasting love and a very special bond.

Mike was educated through the Charles County public school system. He attended McDonough High school in Pomfret, MD and graduated with their first graduating class in 1980. While attending McDonough, Mike played football. Mike was employed with the Charles County government for 39 years.

Despite his battle with renal failure, Mike was fortunate to receive three kidney transplants. He had the pleasure of knowing one of his donors. That donor was his sister-in-law, Lisa Hemsley. On July 31, 1998, Lisa gave Mike a kidney.

Mike was very well loved and enjoyed a good football game. Anytime America's team was playing, the Cowboys as Mike called them, he would be front and center with the perfect seat in front of the television. During the holidays, he would always ask Neco, DeeDee and Delancia "Can you get the game on this TV?" During football 1season, you could count on Mike to be on a few football pools. In addition to his love for football, Mike loved Baseball. He spent his Sundays during the spring and fall at the baseball field. The first team he coached, with his good friend Darell Butler, was the County boys. He then coached Boyz In The Hood and McCrea. When Mike wasn't coaching, you could find him playing Maryland lottery, a card game of tonk, or left right center.  During family game nights, Mike shared lots of laughs and jokes, especially with Agnes. He would say "she's always messing up the game." Also sharing a joke with his great nephew saying "as soon as you win the money the first time, you're done playing!"

Mikes daily breakfast with Patsy and their conversations that never gets old will be missed. Having gatherings with the guys during football season and requesting a side dish or cake from Delancia. The pineapple upside down cake was a huge hit!! Mike was always delighted to know that his oldest brother is being taken care of by Victoria and Sylvia. Mike loved his family and it brought him great joy to know everyone was doing well. Check in phone calls between De'Angelio and Mike will also be truly missed. Uncle Mike giving De'Angelio words of wisdom, encouragement, and making sure he's taking care of his health. Uncle Mike would confirm Neco's once a week visits to give him a helping hand. To handle all things technical and involving the internet. Mike would say "I'll get Neco to check it out for me or I just had Neco look at that!" Uncle Mike loved each one of us, as he had his own individual bond with us. Uncle Mike would say to Agnes and DeeDee when leaving and going to the hospital for doctor's appointments, "I don't know where I'd be without both of you." During those conversations in the car, he would ask how Markita was doing. He also wanted DeGeorgeio to be employed with the Charles County government like he was. He would encourage him to keep applying and when he heard the news that he got the position, Uncle Mike started his interview process, asking him questions and giving him the ins and outs of the job.

Mike leaves to cherish very special memories brother: George Jr "Topper"(Gladys), sisters: Mary "Patsy," and Agnes (James) Day: nephew: Neco (Canice), nieces: DeeDee, Victoria (Travis), Sylvia, Markita "Kita" (Roland II), and Delancia.  great great nephews: De'Angelio, De'Georgeio, Justyce, Roland II "Tres", Khaleel and Kharon; great nieces: Aria-Jade and Destinee,  great great niece: uncles; Virgil "Peter" (Sharon), Thomas (Dorthy), and Sydney (Ethel),  Reyna.  lifelong friends who are like brothers: Ronnie, Daryl, and Brian.
