James Archie McLean, age 90, of Indian Head, Maryland
Master Sergeant (USAF Ret) James Archie McLean (Age 90), of Indian Head, Maryland, suddenly passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024. He was born December 30, 1933, in Robeson County, North Carolina, the sixth of twelve children, to Tobe and Mary Sudie (Handy) McLean.
With his loving wife of 64 years, Helen (McCallum) McLean, they raised a daughter, Donna (Nathan), and two sons, John Howard who preceded him in death, and Jeffrey (Linda). He served his country as a Marine during the Korean War and as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Technician in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star on November 5, 1966. He was a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the EOD Masterblasters. Upon retiring from the Air Force after 26 years of military service, he worked for the Department of Navy, writing EOD publications for 23 years.
He was a loving husband, father, and family photographer, always taking pictures at family events and gatherings. In his early military career, he enjoyed scrapbooking his many excursions to foreign countries. He loved to travel and would be sure to visit family whenever his travels brought him near. His favorite hobby was playing the Maryland State Lottery, which he did up until he was no longer able to drive. In addition to his wife, daughter, and son, he leaves to mourn his passing, sister, Lula (McLean) Baker, five grandchildren; Angela, Cory, Erin, Nathan and Corneilus, three great-grandchildren; Brooklynn, Troy, Jayden, and a long list of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
