IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Walter
Mason
March 3, 1947 – September 18, 2019
James Walter Mason, 72, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
James (Jamie) Walter Mason was born on March 3, 1947 in Newburg, Maryland to the late James and Matilda Mason. After 72 wonderful years, surrounded by family, he transitioned from this life to his heavenly home on September 18, 2019.
Jamie received his education from the public schools of Prince George's County, graduating from Fairmont Heights High School. He further pursued his dream as a self-employed entrepreneur, which he operated his own Truck Driving business in the tri-county area for more than 40 years. His hard work and dedication allowed him to enjoy the fruits of his labor in retirement.
Although he had a very calm and quiet demeanor, he would get an adrenaline rush of excitement when drag racing his Chevrolet Chevelle on Berry Road (228). That car was tuned up for more horsepower to beat his race car crew, Steve Barbour, Dicky Pickeral, Dicky Adams, and anybody else who was brave enough to race, but not get caught by the police. Jamie also had a very steady hand and was no amateur at playing pool in his early years at the Squeeze Inn. His other favorite activities were watching football games all day on Sunday, and watching boxing matches, especially Muhammad Ali. He loved Ali so much; he drove to Deer Park, Pennsylvania to attend his training camp.
Jamie had a strong love for his family and enjoyed spending quality time with them. He looked forward to having large family cook-outs at his home on Route 488, enjoying delicious food, good conversation, and playing horseshoes and card games. His grandchildren, Alexis, Terry (TJ), and DaShawn brought so much joy to his life. Jamie was thrilled to ride them in his dump truck and on the riding lawnmower. They knew how to pull at his heart strings for anything they wanted such as those afterschool trips every day to Burger King to get TJ a hamburger, and the day Pop-Pop let DaShawn skip school which was their secret. Of course, DaShawn told his parents as soon as they got home from work, and Pop-pop was in trouble. He enjoyed endless moments with Alexis after she came home from school; as she grew older, their reality talks were always a life lesson and an eye opener.
Jamie was preceded in death by his parents James and Matilda Mason. He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved daughter, Tracy Mason; one beloved step-son, Terry Thompson (Jennifer); one beloved grandchild, Alexis; three beloved step-grandchildren, TJ, DaShawn, and Brittany; two step-great-grandchildren, Ziylah and Royal Thompson; two loving former wives, Joan Watson and Mary Mason; his loving siblings, William and Tammy Mason; his uncle Abraham Proctor (Naomi), his aunts, Doris Proctor, Bernadette Swann, and Delores Wilson. Also to cherish his memories are three very close friends, Clyde West, David Lyles, and Anthony "Buck" Branson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
