James was educated in the Cleveland County school system and graduated from Shelby High School, Shelby, North Carolina in 1969. After high school graduation, James enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. James spoke German so fluently that the German locals thought "Jimmy" was a German native. After an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force, he was employed by Clyde Short's and Lail's Upholstery for one to two years before enlisting in the United States Army where he retired after serving twenty years. Soon after retiring from USA, James went on to work another twenty-one years for the Veteran's Hospital in Washington, D.C.
"Jimmy" affectionately called by his siblings, was popular during his high school years. He loved music, dancing and going to Teen Club every weekend with friends. James had a great sense of humor and composed funny poems that would keep folks laughing. He appreciated music so much that he taught himself to play the guitar and piano. He also composed and performed songs. He composed and sang a song for his marriage to the love of his life, his wife, Maxine. He had great mechanical skills from an early age. James loved to cook in the kitchen and on the grill. Moreover, he shared his warmth and comforting soul to those he loved and befriended.
James married his beloved wife, Maxine Lebron on August 23, 1986. This union brought together two loving children, daughter Kelly Pearson and son Albert Lebron. He was a devoted husband and father. He took pride in coaching little league football. His family was his passion. James especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Inez and William, Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Hortense, sisters-in-law, Janet and Denise, and brother-in-law, Carroll.
