Obituary

James Grant, Jr., (Age 74) of Waldorf, Maryland.

On July, 24, 1942 in Charleston, South Carolina, James Grant, Sr. and Jamie Lee Grant became the proud parents of a son, James Grant, Jr., affectionately nicknamed, Jimmie Mac.

James graduated from Samuel Gompers High School, Bronx, New York.  He married his childhood sweetheart, Sandra Lee and from that blessed union two daughters were born, Jennifer Grant Whitaker and Shona Fields.  He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending holidays with his children and grandchildren.  Rather than calling him Dad or Granddad, his children and grandchildren referred to him as James.  However, his wife Sandra, who started dating James at the tender age of 15 had the most influence in his life.  His greatest accomplishments were being a husband, father and great grandfather.   Family was everything to Jimmie Mac.  In his later years he enjoyed taking care of his wife and cooking.

During his early years he loved to play basketball, travel, party, play cards and listen to oldies but goodies.  Jimmie Mac was interested in all sports, including backgammon and chess. He was also a fan of all New York sports teams, be it the Giants, Mets, and Nicks. James was bold, strong, opinionated, determined and caring, with a great sense of humor.  His words of wisdom were, "Eat, drink and be merry because tomorrow is not promised."

James accepted Christ as Lord and Savior and was served first Communion by his daughter, Shona and son-in-law, Ervin Fields.  His employment was in Law Enforcement and he held several positions; Correctional Officer, Security Specialist and Guard.

Jimmie Mac is preceded in death by his parents, James Grant, Sr. and Jamie Lee Grant, brothers, Thomas, Lester, Vincent and Daryl, sister, Vanessa, mother-in-law, Mary Ransome, father-in-law, Edison Ransome, brother-in-law, Raymond Gerthers.

James leaves to cherish loving memories, his wife Sandra Lee, daughters, Jennifer Grant Whitaker (John) and Shona Fields (Ervin), grandchildren, Joseph Davis Mitchell, III, Shonae Fields and Erin Fields, great grandchildren, Zickai Fields, Jada Lee Mitchell, Elisha Fields, Kaia Lee Mitchell and Ezra Fields, sisters, Mildred Gerthers, Janice Grant and Virginia Grant, brothers, Stanley, Ronald, Earl, Marvin Michael (Angel) and Daniel (Jennifer) Grant, aunt, Rose Grant and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
