Obituary

James Robert "Bobby" Hungerford, Sr., 87 of Indian Head, Maryland.

On Wednesday, October 15, 1930, James Robert Hungerford was born into this world in Charles County, Maryland. Bobby, as he was more affectionately called, was one of two treasured sons of the late Robert E. Hungerford and Margaret Hungerford. He peacefully transitioned into God's Kingdom on Monday, June 4, 2018 at his home and was surrounded by his beloved family and friends.

Up until the time of illness, Bobby regularly attended Mass at St. Mary Star of The Sea Catholic Church in Indian Head, Maryland. He graduated from Pomonkey High School in 1947. Following high school, he attended and graduated from Maryland State College in Princess Anne, Maryland. He later served 2 years with the Army in the Korean War.  After he was honorably discharged, he married his sweetheart, Mildred, October 12, 1953.  He was a lifetime resident of Charles County, making the Indian Head area his home for 87 years.

Bobby enjoyed a career as a trusted public servant for 34 years where he retired as a Logistics Specialist from the National Security Agency (NSA). He demonstrated the highest level of professionalism, devotion to duty and integrity, while performing a range of assignments.

Bobby enjoyed spending time with the family watching Sunday football games, especially the Redskins and enjoyed other sports such as auto racing and basketball. Some of his favorite pastimes were putting together puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, traveling across the states, bowling in leagues, fishing, playing pinochle and hosting varied outdoor social events for family and friends.  Bobby was also a faithful member of the American Legion, Randolph Furey Post 170, Indian Head, Maryland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Hungerford and his wife, Catherine; two nieces, Bonita and Patricia and nephew, Darnell.

In addition to his wife, Mildred "Millie" of 64 1/2 years, he is also survived by son, James, Jr. "Honeybee" (Ivy), grandson, James Troy; nephew, Myron (Novia); niece-in-law, Lorrine, great niece, Brittany and a host of other family and friends.

Bobby will be missed beyond measure but we know that he is at rest with the Lord. "On behalf of his loving wife, a simple act of kindness, a helping hand, or a kind word to a total stranger are perfect ways to honor his legacy."
