James Calvin "Tricky" Brooks (Age 64) of La Plata, Maryland.
James Calvin (Tricky) Brooks of LaPlata, MD passed away on February 1, 2014 at Hospice of Charles County in Waldorf, MD. James was born in LaPlata, MD on October 23, 1949 to the late Jean Brooks and George Bowman and was adopted as a child by the late Lorenzo and Alberta Carter.
James received his first religious training at Sacred Heart Church in LaPlata and graduated from LaPlata High School. He also received a certificate in auto reconditioning. James worked at the MD Independent for a time, at several local auto dealerships including the former Ken Dixon Chevrolet, and the State Highway Administration.
Tricky loved all sports, including basketball and wrestling, and pitched for The Bucks, a local championship softball team popular in the Charles County amateur league many years ago. More than anything, Tricky was a loyal Washington Redskins super fan who never missed a chance to cheer for his team.
James was preceded in death by his parents, adoptive parents, sisters Mary Louise Brooks and Martha Rosier, and brother Roger Barnes. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Michelle S. Gordon (Rayvon), granddaughter Tishjuan Gordon, and blended siblings Joanie Dickson, Phyllis Ransom, Herman Carter, Janett Carter, Alice Tolson, Leo Carter, Jerome Lyles, and Thomas Chisley; uncle William Thomas Bowman, aunt Doris Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and very special lifelong friends.
The service for James Calvin "Tricky" Brooks will be on Monday, February 10th, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, LaPlata, MD. The family will receive visitors at the church from 8:30am followed by a Mass at 10:00am. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
