IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Louis
Bowman, Sr.
February 5, 1942 – December 28, 2022
JAMES LOUIS BOWMAN SR, 80, affectionately known as "Jimmy" departed this life on Wednesday December 28 th , 2022, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata Maryland.Jimmy was born on February 5 th, 1942 in Chaptico, St. Mary's County, Maryland to the late Mary Louise Johnson-Bowman and the late Charles Henry Bowman II. He comes from a large family, being the third of fifteen children.
He was educated in the Charles County Public School System. He was employed at an early age and worked numerous positions for a private employer at Marshal Hall Park in Bryans Road Maryland and from there he worked for the same employer in Calvert County for many years. In 1985, he was employed by the Charles County Government and held numerous positions where he later retired on October 17, 2008.
On February 24 th , 1968, he married Carol Ann Posey. From that union there were two children, La Shawn Yvette Bowman and the late James Louis Bowman Jr.
Jimmy loved spending time with his family. He also loved fishing, gardening, beautifying his yard with flowers and all different types of bushes. He took pride in his landscaping work, while cutting his grass at least three times a week. Needless to say he loved flowers, especially rose bushes. One would say he had a green thumb – he could make anything he planted grow. Jimmy loved to build. Using his carpentry skills, he added 5 rooms to his house. He had a thing for antique tractors and lawn mowers. He also loved going to "New Market" every Saturday morning around 9 am until his health started to fail. At that point, he had his buddy (nephew) Darnell Carroll aka "Donnie" to take him. Their outing included going to Thompson Seafood and across the Harry Nice Bridge in VA for his "Salem Cigarettes". Jimmy thought of Donnie as a second son and there wasn't anything Donnie wouldn't do for him. And let us not forget his special brother-in-law Don, aka "Casey" Carroll. Whatever needed to be done, with no hesitation Casey made sure it was taken care of. They loved sitting under his carport sharing stories and a few drinks. Jimmy also had a special friend, James Washington better known as "Pig" who would often stop by whether to lend a helping hand or just visit with him as they both enjoyed each other's company.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy is preceded in death by his son, James Louis Bowman Jr; his siblings, Agnes Watson, Charles Henry Bowman III "Bubba", Frances Butler, Joseph "Stephen" Bowman, William "Michael" Bowman and Herman" Randy" Bowman; his in-laws, Audrey Keys, and William and Ruth Posey, his brothers-in-law, Melvin and Darrell Carroll; and sister-in-law, Marion Carroll.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Carol Ann of 54 years; his daughter La Shawn (Paul Swann) and a special grandson, "Malcolm". He also leave to cherish his memory, his siblings, Mary Jane Bowman, Ellen Hawkins (Leroy), Ann Butler (Genie), Margaret "Linda" Colbert (Donald), John "Purnell" Bowman (Carolyn), Arthur "David" Bowman (Patricia), Sherman Bowman and Carl "Jeffrey" Bowman; his sisters and brothers-in-law on wife side, Sharon Arrington (James), Gary Carroll, Don Carroll (Linda), Judy Bowens (Dewitt), Diane Carroll, Cheryl Lee (Thomas), Jeffrey Carroll, Fabian Carroll (Theresa), Ruth Ann Wade, Gloria Jean Posey, Connie Posey, William Posey, Mark Posey, Christine Flowers (Jamie) and Matthew Posey; his godchildren, Angela "Angie" Butler and LaKesha "Kesha" Carroll; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
