Obituary

MOSLEY, IRIS DARLENE (MANNING) (AGE 67) OF WASHINGTON, D.C.

Iris Darlene Manning Mosley, of Washington, D.C., was born on September 26, 1957, to Ethelery (Ann) Swann Manning Johnson and Anthony (Tony) Howard Manning.  Iris transitioned from this life into her eternal rest on February 2, 2025, at George Washington University Hospital.

Iris grew up in Southern Maryland –Bryans Road and Indian Head - and attended Charles County public schools.  In her youth, she spent precious time with her paternal grandparents, the late Doris and Samuel Manning, who helped guide her formative years.  She graduated from Henry E. Lackey High School, Indian Head, Maryland, in June 1975.  Iris began working soon after graduation because, as she put it, she couldn't wait to get out of the "country",

Iris began her formal career at Georgetown University Hospital as an Administrator for Transplant Surgery.  She was proud of the work she did managing the office and providing support to the primary physician, medical staff, and patients.  Iris also worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield and held a variety of administrative positions throughout her career until her health prevented her from working full-time.

Iris was a loving daughter and devoted sister.  She fostered harmonious relationships among her siblings and enjoyed spending time with all of them.  Additionally, Iris had a heart of gold, an unforgettable laugh, and a serious gift of gab.  She loved her cat, Tinkerbell, and spoke fondly of her feline fur baby.  Iris cherished her family and friends. She held a unique bond with all who knew and loved her.  Iris had a special love and respect for her parents, Ann and Tony.  They equally loved, supported, and cherished their beautiful daughter.

Iris was raised in the Catholic faith and completed the Holy Sacraments. Later, she converted to Baptist and continued to be a faithful follower of God.

The Lord knew Iris was getting tired and called her home to rest.  She leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Ann Johnson; father, Tony Manning; siblings, Floyd Manning (Beverly), Shree Swann, Ronald Manning, Carla Manning, Wanda Manning (James), Christopher Manning (Debra), Twana Mason (Victor), Ronni LeGrande (Daryl), Vikki Dorsey (Don); cousin/sister, Yvonne Colbert; aunts, Vernona Colbert, Deborah Carrington Smith (Cedric), Shirlyn Swann, Marylin Fleming, Antoinette Torrain, Charlene Kearny, Sheila Swann; uncles, Edsel Swann, John Cecil Swann Jr. (Doris); special friend Anthony Beale; dear friends Dwayne Howard, Darrell Wright, and Steve Mosley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Iris was preceded in death by older brother Anthony Manning, Jr., who died at childbirth; grandparents, John Cecil and Ruth Thompson Swann, Samuel and Doris Manning; nephew, Antoine Bush; cousin, Tiffani Carrington; godmother and aunt, Michele Colbert; and stepmom, Barbara Manning
