Diane's Journey

Ida Diane Heard of Nanjemoy, Maryland, departed this life on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C.  Ida, most warmly known as Diane, was born on October 19, 1958 in LaPlata, Maryland, to the late George Dyson Sr., and Mary "Sally" Dyson.  Diane was one of eight children.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Sandra R. Dyson, Rocheila "Sheila" Dyson, Joseph Dyson Sr., and Bonita Drummond.

Diane was educated in the Charles County Public School system and graduated from Lackey High School in Indian Head, Maryland.  While in high school she met the love of her life, Garnell, and they were married on August 8, 1986.  Diane spent many years being a devoted mother and wife.  She later found her true calling as a teacher in the Head Start Program where she mentored and touched the lives of so many families.

Diane loved God, and was a true example of how God's love can shine from within.  She was an active member of Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church for more than thirty years.  While there, she served as the superintendent of Sunday School, a Deaconess, a Missionary, and was a member of the Gospel Chorus and the Praise Team.  Diane will forever be remembered as a loving, kind, and devoted woman of God.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Garnell Heard, Sr.; children, Garnell Heard, Jr., and Ayonna "Trina" Heard; siblings, George (Sandra) Dyson Jr., Thomas (Della) Dyson, Robert Dyson, Sylvester "Rabbit" (Elaine) Anderson, and Tamalla (Joe) Barber; grandchildren, Kayla, Sean, Jayden, Kamyrn, Nathan and Gizelle Heard, Liana Miller and Tre'onna Butler; Godson, Jahaad Proctor; special loved one, Jamilah Abdullah; former daughter-in-law, Crystal Heard; Mother-in-law, Iretha "Reese" Heard; siblings-in-law, Joseph Drummond, Deaconess Doris "Darlene" Heard, Clayton (Euwanna) Heard, Ronald (Linda) Heard, Cheryl (Michael) Greene, Gerard (Barbara) Heard, Sr., Troy (Saundra) Heard, and Claudine (Andre) Proctor; aunts Ophelia (Jack) Jackson and Mary Dyson; uncle Robert (Doris "Tudy") Barber; a special friend, Pauline Posey; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 10 am until 11:45 am in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Private Celebration of Life, 12 noon.  Interment, Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Nanjemoy, Maryland.
