Obituary

Hubert Lenington Sumner III was born on May 05, 1941, in Washington, DC to the late Hubert and Miriam Sumner. He departed this life on October 15, 2021, at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, MD.

Hubert attended DC Public Schools and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School in 1961. He had a long career in government, working with Protective Services, until his retirement in 2006.

Hubert was joined in matrimony to Shirley Fletcher-Sumner on October 18, 2017, in their home, officiated by Pastor Dr. Diane Newman-Frye, surrounded by a few loving family members.

The family wishes to acknowledge Hubert's cherished family members who preceded him in death: Hubert L. Sumner Jr, (father), Miriam Sumner (mother), Marsha Sumner (sister), and Shirley Fletcher-Sumner (wife).

Affectionally known as Mr. Hue, Buddy, and Pops, family was most important to him. He really enjoyed all the family gatherings during special occasions and holidays. His passion for baking and the love of children cannot be denied. Everyone adored "Mr. Hue" and he fit right in with our family.  With such a kind heart, he would do anything that you asked of him.  He loved to be surrounded by family and friends and he absolutely cherished his dogs, Obie, and Missy.  His pastime hobbies included going fishing, eating crabs, and watching the Washington Redskins.

God has truly blessed Hubert and he leaves to cherish his memories:  his sister-n-law (Joyce Eggleston), brother-n-law (Matthew Conway Jr.), stepchildren (Walter (Bud), Darlene (Little Bits), Charles (Nanny), and Pamela (Pam)).  His cousins (Margie and Leah) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.

Mr. Hue will be deeply missed, but now he is an Angel walking around in heaven.

Viewing, 9:00 a.m. until time of Service, 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2021, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.  Interment, Maryland National Memorial Park, 13300 Baltimore Avenue, Laurel, Maryland 20707.
