IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hope Bernadette
Gibbs
May 15, 1967 – June 29, 2023
St. Hope Bernadette Gibbs was born May 15, 1967 in Washington, DC at Columbia Hospital for Women. She was 7 pounds 2 ounces. She attended Buchanan Elementary in Washington, DC as well as Lord Baltimore Elementary in Fort Washington, MD. She attended both Friendly High School and Oxon Hill High School located in Fort Washington, MD. Hope was a woman of many trades. She made her own clothes and clothes for others, was an excellent cook, and always was there to help friends and family. Consistent with her spirit to always help and give back, Hope found a career in the Financial Aid field and would always go above and beyond for anybody who needed assistance. She worked as the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid Services at Southeastern University and worked in a similar role at The Graduate School USA.
St. Hope Gibbs joined the Church of God and Saints of Christ in 1999. In that same year she was appointed to the Daughters Quorum as Leah and served in that position for over 24 years. St. Hope worked under 4 different Mother Sarahs and provided unwavering support to all of them. She served on the Candlelight Committee for over 13 years and on the Sick Committee for over 10 years. She also served on the Carpenter Shelter Committee (feeding the homeless) for over 14 years and led this committee for the past 9 years. St. Hope was an active participant in all charitable activities within the Tabernacle. She assisted our Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (prevention) centers; she assisted with all our community activities through the storehouse; she assisted the Pastor's Clothing Committee with maintaining and taking care of the Pastors Clothing; she prepared meals for repast, various events, and meetings. Whatever St. Hope's hands found to do, she did. She could always be found somewhere working for the Lord. St. Hope was faithful and committed to the work of this church. She loved her Leader, and she loved the saints. Even when her body began to fail, she continued to work, and continued to support and encourage the saints when they needed her. She had a wealth of information and gladly shared her knowledge with everyone. St. Hope has been a good and faithful servant, and now she has entered into the joy of the Lord! We will miss her terribly, but we are pleased to have had the opportunity to know her and call her our sister and friend.
Her Legacy will be forever remembered by her two sons Darryle Smith Jr (DJ) and Michel Gibbs; her sister Faith Gibbs; her, mother Gloria Gibbs; 2 nephews, Demetrius and Aaron Gibbs; a niece Zakura Gibbs; 6 great nephews and 1 great niece; as well as a host of many other relatives, friends, and church family.
