ESTES, HENRIETTA JOHNSON (AGE 79) OF ACCOKEEK, MARYLAND
OBITUARY
Henrietta Estes was born in Durham, North Carolina on April 23, 1936, to the blessed union of William H. and Sylvia Johnson.
Henrietta departed this life to her greater reward on August 10, 2015.
She enjoyed and knew everyone's birthday, dancing, all types of music, sports, and especially watching the Redskins games.
Henrietta's hobbies as a young teenager and adult were playing basketball, bike riding, and tennis. She also enjoyed holidays, receiving and giving gifts. She was a loving big sister helping to raise her two younger sisters Lillie Mae and Dorothy. She cared and babysat relatives and other children. Henrietta was the best mother of ensuring her children had a broad life experience taking them to the Washington Zoo, White house, museums, baseball games and Anacostia Park. She was fortunate to participate in Martin Luther King, Jr, I have a Dream speech delivered August 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington, DC...
She is preceded in death by her loving husband George H. Estes, parents, son, Carlton, and siblings, Mary Sylvia Grant-Whitson, Ernest, William Henry, Lillie Mae, and Dorothy Johnson.
She was also actively involved in her families' lives and was very loving and kind to all.
Henrietta is survived by her son Calvin Johnson of Hampton, Virginia, daughter Amanda and her husband Michael Martin of Accokeek, Maryland, Grandchildren Calvin Taylor and Tasha Martin, Great-Grandchildren Alexis, Shakyra, Calvin Jr. Cemoni, Dominique Taylor, Jaden Hines, Zia Harding and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Her viewing will be held from 10am until time of service 11am on Monday, August 17, 2015 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment Heritage Memorial Cemetery, Waldorf, Maryland.
