Helen Lorain Springs, 82 of Tennessee

Obituary

Humble, patient, genuine, devoted, forgiving, longstanding, and orderly are just a few words that describe the character of our Helen.  She was 82 years old when God called her Home and she answered with a peaceful "yes" on January 31, 2018.  Her presence in this earth began on September 30, 1935, as she was born to Haggard N. Johnson and Della C. Anderson, in Shelbyville, TN.  In 1957, She graduated from Bedford County Training School.

Helen is the sister of Evelyn, Dorothy, Margaret, Brenda, Lucielle, Haggard, Jr. and Charles.  She was not only a beloved daughter and sister, she was also a devoted wife of 46 years.  On December 31, 1957, she joined in Holy Matrimony with Thomas E. Springs, whom she survived.  Together, they begot three children, Darryl, Lisa and Eric Springs.  As a result, there are four grandchildren, Amber, Darian, Ivana, and Brianna.

She was a dedicated employee of the American Postal Workers Union, where she worked for over 20 years before retiring.  Upon retirement, she did the expected, seeing clearly that it was her role to assume daily care for her grandchildren, from birth until they each entered school.  Her work ethic was impeccable, as she displayed the badges of duty and responsibility in everything she put her hands to.  She had a knack for balancing it all.

Some of her favorite things to do was listening to music, watching her favorite movies, shopping, and cooking, of which her fried chicken was a favorite to all.  To each of us, she was a confidant, whose loyalty was immeasurable.  Her quiet love could fill a room as it could an individual's heart without a spoken word.  Often times she would speak "I love you" unprovoked and unconditionally.    She was full of poise, grace, and dignity.  And her laughter, hearty and contagious.  Simply put, she was a beautiful, honorable and nurturing woman!

Her viewing will take place on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 11:00am until time of service 12:00noon in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.  Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, Maryland.
