Helen Elaine (Duckett) Briscoe (Age 79) of La Plata, Maryland.
Elaine's Journey
Helen Elaine Briscoe, affectionately known as "Elaine" or "Laine", was born on September 14, 1937 to the late Ernest and Agnes Duckett. Elaine was delivered at home by a midwife. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Church in Pomfret, MD. In her later years she frequently attended Shabach Evangelistic Ministries in Waldorf MD where she was invited to join the Royals (Senior) choir. Elaine obtained her education in the Charles County Public School system and graduated from Bel Alton High School in 1956. Elaine obtained her first job as a nursing assistant at LaPlata Hospital. She then moved on to become a substitute teacher at her Alma Mater, Bel Alton High. Later Elaine acquired a job at Dash-In Foods before starting her career at the Waldorf Walmart. Everyone who shopped or worked at Walmart loved her and called her Momma Helen. Walmart is also where a close friendship blossomed between Elaine and Barbara Childs. Though she enjoyed all of her jobs, her most rewarding job of all was being a wife and mother.
In 1956 Elaine met the love of her life, Boe. She loved Boe with all of her heart and stuck by his side through thick and thin. On January 18, 1958 the two became one in Holy Matrimony. From that union they had 10 beautiful children that they cherished dearly. Some of Elaine's favorite pastimes were reading Harlequin Romance Novels and watching Soap Operas. She enjoyed attending Gospel Singings, listening to Gospel music and Oldie but Goodies on WPFW. Elaine also loved watching sports on TV and was a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan!! She was also a big fan of baseball and enjoyed piling her children in the car on weekends and heading to the field to watch her husband Boe pitch. She also enjoyed getting together with her best friend Anne and going to picnics and cabarets.
Though she loved all of her of her grandchildren equally, she had a special bond with her baby boys Juwuan, Jemone and Jemarri. They were always lying under their grandma, having her pose for crazy pictures and making funny videos. They also loved to pluck her nerves just so they could see her reaction and laugh at whatever wild remark she gave them. Marcus and Tika were also extremely close to their grandmother and often fought over who she loved more as she sat basking in all the attention they gave her! Elaine was a sweet and kind women but she had a look that could cut right through you. She had a sharp tongue and a witty remark for whatever you threw at her. She said what she meant, and she meant what she said. Elaine was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She took great pleasure in being the matriarch of her family and loved effortlessly. She would leave a smile on your face and could make you laugh like no other. Elaine leaves a memory in each of our hearts that we will carry forever.
