Remembering Hannah C. Smith "Billie"
Hannah C. Smith, affectionately known as Billie, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and friend to many was born June 10th, 1930, to the late Burleigh and Carrie Simmons.
She peacefully departed this life on November 5th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She married Joseph "Whimpy" Smith, to this union there were three children, Joseph "Lonnie" Smith, Angella R. Davis and Derek "Ricky" Smith.
Billie received her formal education through the Charles County Public School System, graduating from Pomonkey High School in 1946. She obtained a degree from Martha Washington Vocational School. After more than 30 years of service, she retired from the Naval Base in Indian Head, Maryland as a seamstress. She continued to have a second career in the Charles County School System.
Billie loved the Lord. She was a member of the St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She willingly served in many capacities in her church and the Mattawoman Rod and Hunt Club Women's Auxiliary. She loved to travel, sew, play cards and go to Bingo.
In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Whimpy, son, Ricky, daughter-in-law, Janice, sisters, Lessie Washington, Constance "Sis" Milstead and Mary "Goldie" King, brothers, Adrian, Francis "Merdie", Joseph and Russell Simmons.
She leaves to cherish her fond and unforgettable memories: son, Joseph "Lonnie" Smith (Vicky), daughter, Angella R. Davis (James), nine grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, niece (like-a-daughter) Tina Simmons Ball, brother-in-law, Benny Smith, sister-in-law, Irma "Chic" Gray and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing, 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 21, 2022 until Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 30 Mattingly Avenue, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment, St. Charles Cemetery, Glymont, Maryland.
