Obituary

Hannah Coleman Martin, 76, of Brandywine, MD affectionately known as Peaches passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 19, 2023.

Hannah was born on August 10, 1946 to the late Bishop Genie J. and Lillie Bell Coleman in Harlem, NY.  At 14, the family moved to Hopewell, NJ. She would often go back to Harlem to stay with her older sisters Delores, Harriet, Lillie Bell, and Martha and long-time sister-friend Johnnie Jean and brother Peter. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1964 and went on to study ministry at Christian College in Georgia.

In 1966, she married her high school sweetheart, Carl Martin, Sr. and moved to Santa Ana, CA. Together they enjoyed traveling, bike riding, roller blading and watching movies. Married for over 57 years, they were inseparable.

Hannah and Carl went on to have four children - Carl, Jr [Geraldine], Sonja [Warren], Andre [Shannon], and Kaylan [Chris]; 17 grandchildren [Carl, III, Maegan, Carlos, Cyle; Charisma, Brittany, Amanda, Desirea, Alexander; Andrea, Selena, Andre, Jr., Avery; Christopher, Jr, Kamille, Keira, and Kairi; and 9 great grandchildren. She leaves sisters Betty Richardson, Frieda Julian, brother Nelson Coleman, sister-in-law, Alberta Martin and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends to cherish her memory.

With the most beautiful smile, genuine and a joyous spirit, everything Hannah put her hand to flourished. She was a longtime Hospice volunteer, prayer warrior, a licensed beautician, bailiff, and retired as a loan professional from Andrews Federal Credit Union. Her bubbly phone voice was unmatched.

After retirement, Hannah enjoyed visiting family, listening to inspirational audiobooks, dancing, and calling loved ones often to check-in. No matter the conversation, she wanted you to know she was a Marine's wife, a Harlem Queen, and New York, New York was so great they named it twice.

Hannah brought life to every party, laughter to every situation, and love to every soul. Known for her charm and humor, she was quick to call her favorite people buzzard butt and to greet with a punch to the arm before coming in for a warm hug. Hannah was her own person without apology.
