IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gwendolyn Marie
Jackson
November 5, 1950 – December 29, 2017
Obituary
Gwendolyn Marie Jackson daughter of Raymond and Evelyn Jackson was born on November 5, 1950 in Ironsides, Maryland and entered into eternal life on December 29, 2017.
Gwen was educated in the Charles County Public School System, graduating in June 1969 from La Plata High School.
She was employed at the World Bank in Washington, DC for 22-1/2 years. She retired in June 2007, as the Supervisor of the Mail and Distribution Unit. She was an enthusiastic and hard worker and became the supervisor of those who had once supervised her. During her tenure there she received multiple performance awards for Leadership and Teamwork.
Gwen was baptized at an early age in Mt. Hope Baptist Church, Nanjemory, Maryland. She later joined the Free Evangelistic Church (now Church of the Rapture) and Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church. She has always considered the Church of the Rapture as her home church. She was a dedicated member of the Voices of Love Choir and a willing participant in the Christian Women's Ministry Annual Conference at the Church of the Rapture. She was a Deaconess at the Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church.
Gwen started her singing career early in life while traveling with her grandfather, Dr. Rev. Emmett Starks throughout the Metropolitan Area. He ministered to the congregation with the Word of God and Gwen sung hymns to the glory of God. She was a member of the Brighter Day Community Choir. This Choir rendered services throughout the area. She believed in helping others and volunteered her services at nursing homes and food pantries. Gwen was not only a songstress but a composer, writer and re-arranger of hymns. She was inspired by God to write the songs: Jesus, Jesus, Jesus and Praise Him. Singing was her passion and God given talent. She did not hide her talent but used it for God's glory!
Gwen was a quiet yet well-spoken person. She knew what she wanted and set goals to achieve them. She enjoyed cooking, as well as, baking and was a gourmet cook. Some of her favorite dishes/desserts: potato salad, corn pudding, fried chicken, 7-up pound cake and carrot cake, just to name a few. Gwen also enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit her daughter and grandchildren. Dancing was one of her past time favorites. For relaxation, she would read a good novel, watch an Alfred Hitchcock or "who did it" movie to solve the mystery. She also liked to do puzzles during her quiet time. Don't forget shopping, Gwen and anyone who would go with her, would truly shop until they dropped. Even if it meant buying the same things over and over again.
Gwen leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughter, Zymena Rodriquez Jackson Curry of Miramar, Florida, grandchildren: Ta'Shawna Marie Jackson, Andrew James and Danzya Detwine Curry. Brothers: Ray Jackson (Shirley), Charles Simpson, Barry Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA), Sterling Jackson (Brenda). Sisters: Carolyn Swann (Sterling), Gloria Sweetney, Evelyn Webb (Alfred) (Virginia Beach, VA). Godchildren: Ray Antonio Jackson (aka Tony Ray), Marc Anthony Swann, Jen'a Ciara Swann Mendez and Alisha Swann. Godgiven Son and family: Reynard, Shawna, Jaymison and Jayla Tillery. God-given Sister: Christine Robinson and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
