Profile of Life

Gregory (Greg) Bruce Pickeral was born August 6, 1965 to Mary "Evelyn" and the late Joseph Pickeral.  Vickie Danita Proctor was born June 13, 1965 to Irene and the late David A. Proctor.  They were both born, raised and educated in Charles County, Maryland.

Greg and Vickie were high school sweethearts and met at McDonough High School at the age of fourteen.  Vickie has often told the story of how she knew Greg was "the one" even though she said she thought he was a 'Bamma in Blue.'  When he initially approached her he was wearing blue from head to toe -- yes, even his shoes!  Nonetheless, they fell in love and wed in 1985; the same year they welcomed their first bundle of joy, Erica Nicole.  A few years later in 1988, they completed their core family with the birth of Brittany Ashley.

Greg began his career installing carpet in the Southern Maryland area.  He became well-known for his congeniality and stellar work ethic.  He worked his way up to become the top salesman at Carpet Country, which was later renamed Abbey Carpet.  Greg was a thoughtful and caring man who did everything he could to provide for his "girls."  In 2016, he made the decision to start a small business with Vickie and his longtime friend Dewayne of G & D Floors.  As with everything else, Greg and Vickie worked the business together. This labor of love became the crowning achievement of his career.

Vickie began her career as a GS-2 at the General Services Administration, National Capital Region in the Public Buildings Service at just 18 years of age.  During her tenure, Vickie earned her Master's Degree from American University and climbed the career ladder to become a GS-15.   Like Greg, she worked hard and endeared herself to each person she met.  Vickie extended her warmth to everyone and was often referred to as "The Mayor" of NCR PBS.  There was not a person Vickie would not greet, learn their name and bring a ray of sunshine into their day.  She was a pleasure to be around, and her infectious laughter spread joy throughout the office.  Vickie's "get it done" attitude will be greatly missed. She was looking forward to her retirement in June of 2020. Vickie was a devoted Catholic who served in various roles in her local church.

Greg and Vickie lived with open and generous hearts.  Just knowing Greg and Vickie meant you were family, and family to them was everything.  Second only to their love for each other was the love for their two beautiful daughters, Erica and Brittany and their grandchildren, Ryan, Gabriella, Aaron Jr. and Zoey. Through their union, they built a legacy of family, faith and compassion which will continue to live on.

Greg was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Pickeral, Jr. and is survived by his siblings, Cornelius Pickeral (Linda), Daniel Pickeral (Jai) and sister-in-law, Rose Pickeral-Brown (David).  Vickie is survived by her siblings, Angela Lee (Wayne) and Andre Proctor (Claudine).

Greg and Vickie spread their love to a host of family including many nieces and nephews to include, Artisha, Kiesha (Nick), Kristie (Malcolm), Kandace (Calvin), Alex, Bryan (Tasha), Rachel (Daren), Jessica, Marcus, Nicole, Andre, Brandy (Billy), Alexandra, April (Howard), Amanda, Jordan (Jimia), Aaron, Brian (Samantha), Janae; best friends, Dewayne Robinson, Claire Fortune and Airis Gill and many great nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.

Greg and Vickie embodied love. As Greg would often say, "wherever she's going, I'm going."

They transitioned to eternal life on Friday, August 2, 2019.

A Memorial Visitation will be held, 11:00 am until Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, 12:00 noon, Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.  Inurnment, St. Catherine's Catholic Church Cemetery, 7865 Port Tobacco Road, McConchie, Maryland 20677.
