Gregory Matthews Smith, TS US Airforce (RET.) 69 of Bryans Road, Maryland.
On November 13, 1950, Gregory Matthews Smith was born in Washington, DC to the late Thomas Isaiah Smith and Mildred Quarles. His passing occurred on Friday August 7, 2020 at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.
Gregory grew up in Indian Head, Maryland along with his older brother, Thomas Michael Smith and attended Pomonkey High School. Upon Graduating, he enrolled in Charles County Community College. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a Personnel Specialist from March 12, 1971 to July 31, 1991. During that time he was stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base, Eielson Air Force Base, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and the US Naval Ordnance Station located in Indian Head, Maryland where he retired. He also served in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and achieved the rank of an E6 Technical Sergeant.
In 1969, he met Marguerite Warren in Indian Head, Maryland and the two were married on July 8, 1972. During their marriage of 48 years they had three children together, Kacey Smith-Floyd, Ellison Adell Smith and Elgin-Baylor Smith. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Derrick Smith, Landon Smith and Shantorie Floyd.
Gregory was an entrepreneur and founded a school bus transportation company, G & M Transportation Inc., with his wife, in August 1983, which Marguerite still operates today.
As a young adult, Gregory enjoyed playing baseball with his friends and formed the Wrecking Crew in Charles County, Maryland. He also participated on bowling teams and was a disc jockey who spun oldies but goodies while enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was also an avid sports fan who supported the Washington Bullets, Redskins and Senators. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
