Scott, Gregory King Sr. (Age64) of Fort Washington, MD
Gregory King Scott Sr. was born on March 2, 1951 in New York City, New York to the late George Vincent Scott and Lula Mae Flagler Boyd Scott. He has two sisters, Betty Jean Scott, who preceded him in death, and Gloria V. Baffoe.
He gave his life to Jesus Christ in November 1995 and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church in Washington, DC. He later joined Fort Foote Baptist Church in Fort Washington, Maryland on March 31, 2002. He graduated from Eastern Senior High School of the DC public schools. He also attended classes at American University.
On August 15, 1970, Gregory married Rosemary Washington of Washington, DC and this August would have been 45 years of marriage. To this union, three children were born: Camille Kaye Scott McLeod, Gregory King Scott Jr. (Wakina), and Gerald Kenneth Scott Sr. (Curtrice). In addition, five grandchildren (all boys): Richard, Gerald, Gregory, Gavin, Zachary, and a sixth grandson on the way.
Soon after high school graduation, Gregory along with many of his classmates joined the Metropolitan Police Department. He was appointed March 7, 1971 and after spending his entire career at First District, he retired after 23 years on September 30, 1994. After retirement from the Department, he was bought on with Capitol Hill Police Department because of his experience as a crime analyst on the administrative section at 1D. After 13 years with Capitol Hill Police Department, he retired and received the Service Award in Recognition of Outstanding Support and Assistance to the Department and Members of Congress on January 11, 2005. He also worked for H&R Block for over 20 years. Gregory has always been a hard worker even from his childhood. He was a paper boy until he was a teenager. He was so productive on his paper route that he won a trip to Puerto Rico.
He always loved music and for many years belonged to the Lancers Drum and Bugle Corp playing the trumpet and competing locally. He enjoys jazz concerts especially if a saxophone is involved. Travel is another one of his passions. Gregory was the seafood BBQ king of the Scott clan. He has also been involved in many sports – Metropolitan Police Bowling League, baseball, and softball. He is a Skins Fan and Wizards basketball fan too. But, ultimately, he is a baseball nut. He attended Nationals games, but his heart belonged to the New York Yankees. Before his passing, he was softball commissioner for Metropolitan Baseball & Softball Umpires Association.
Gregory has been recognized for many awards just to name a few –
Greater Washington Softball Umpires Association/Achievement Award (1994 Members B Fast Pitch)
The Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission presents Umpire of the Year (1993)
Greater Washington Softball Umpires Association 100 Game Award (1992)
Greater Washington Softball Umpire Association 5 Years of Outstanding Service (1994)
Metropolitan Baseball and Softball Umpires Association Earle (Ben) Wright Award Dedicated Service (November 11, 2007)
Ultimately, he was just Greg, Scottie, daddy, Pop Pop, loyal friend, never judged anyone, live- and-let-live kind of a guy, but most importantly a child of the most high King Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!
