Grant Woodrow Baker, Jr
., was born March 15, 1941 in Rison, Maryland to the Late Grant Woodrow Baker, Sr. and Mabel (Travers) Baker. Later, he moved to the "Perry Wright Projects aka "Woodland Village", in Indian Head, Maryland.
He entered into eternal rest October 26, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was educated in the Charles County Public School System, graduating from Pomonkey High School Class of 1959. He also received a Certificate of Achievement from Lincoln Technical Institute. He was employed by the U.S. Naval Ordnance Station , Indian Head, MD.
Grant married the Late Betty L. McMillan and from that union, one daughter was born, Gale. Grant and Betty enjoyed over 50 years of togetherness in love.
He gained employment with the Howat Concrete Company, of Washington, D.C., becoming a proud member of the Teamster Local 639. Grant received Special Recognition as an exceptional employee from the then Mayor of Washington, DC; Marion Berry, for maintaining a "super clean" truck.
After many years of dedicated service, he retired from Howat Concrete Company. Because of his love for truck driving, he accepted part-time employment with Farm Service, Inc., Accokeek, Maryland; and a short stint with Dinks Bus Service as a driver.
Grant loved to drive trucks! For recreation, he loved "wagering" of any sort. He also loved being around his family, as well as, attending family activities. He and his wife , Betty loved to "party", visiting the neighborhood establishments, and listening to "Oldies, but Goodies", Otis Redding was his favorite.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brothers, David, Ronald and Reuben; sisters, Dorothy Mae and Catherine. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Gale Baker-Proctor (Jerome), step-son Alvin Walker (Dana); grandchildren, Jerome III, Craig, Grant, and Jerrale and 11 great-grand children; sisters, Annette Bowman and Mary Baker-Blackmon; brother, Maurice T. Baker, Sr., (Denise); sisters-in-law, Catherine and Jacqueline; brother-in-law, Arthur Bowman and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and associates. He will be sorely missed!
His Viewing will be, 9:00 am, until time of Service, 11:00 am, Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 5560 Pleasant Grove Road, Marbury, Maryland 20658. Interment, Church Cemetery.Viewing
