Obituary

Gordon N. Posey of Fort Washington, MD transitioned June 13, 2023.

Gordon N. Posey, also known as, Gardeen, Gordy and Pop-Pop, was born December 28, 1936 in Ironside, Maryland to the late James M. and Rosie Posey.  He answered the call of his Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning, June 13, 2023, after facing a long journey of health challenges.

He was educated in the Charles County Public School System and enlisted in the United States Navy on October 31, 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1958.  He married the late Rose Lee Proctor. Together they raised Dannette Ann Milstead whom they loved as their daughter. Gordon and the late Bernice Thompson Posey met as widower and widow. Bernice and her three children became the love of his life. Gordon and Bernice married on August 17, 1974. They remained inseparable and devoted for 41 years, until Bernice's passing in 2015.

Gordon was a devoted father to his children. He and the family enjoyed dinners at restaurants, outings at the race track, and family vacations. Gordon was also an avid angler and would go fishing and hunting  whenever he had the opportunity.  He faithfully read the newspaper and enjoyed discussing current events, politics and world affairs.  He provided for his family through employment at the Department of Defense, Naval Ordnance Station for 37 years.

Gordon was a very kind and loving person. He welcomed his mother-in-law into his home when her health was failing and treated her as if she was his own mother.  He also had a close relationship with his siblings. He was known for providing transportation for family, neighbors and friends. If you asked him for a favor, he would most assuredly do it for you if at all possible and would not look for anything in return.  He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Hope Baptist Church, Nanjemoy, MD.  He continued to exercise his faith in later years as a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Marbury, MD, where he served tirelessly on the Progressive Men Ministry, Deacons Ministry, Unified Male Chorus, and Hospitality Ministry.  He was active in the cleanup and beautification of the church grounds and the Parrish Jarrett Park and Playground.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rosie Posey; his wife, Bernice Posey; brother, James "Sugar Boy" Posey, and sister, Doris Maddox.

Gordon will be missed and held dear in the hearts of his four children, Barry (Jacqueline) and David (Maridel) Thompson, Thomasinia "Tina" Brisbon (Steve), and Dannette Ann Milstead; grandchildren, Joshua, Kenell, and Tonya Milstead, Stephanie Loyd (Robert), Brianna Holmes, Maya, and Adrienne Thompson, Anaya and Ashten Brisbon; great-grandchildren, Sophia Holmes, Rylan, Hayvn, and Hailee Loyd; brothers, James "Zack" (Mildred), Zares, Sr. (Saundra), Zeborah (Amy), Kelvin (Katressia), Francis "Boo" Maddox; sisters, Goldie Carter, Rose Ann Posey, Darlene Toye (Wardell), Kerry (Leroy), Clarice Cobey, Dorothy Shields (James), Ann Posey (Kerry), and Azella Proctor (William); sisters-in-law,
