SIMMONS, GLORIA ANN (AGE 72) OF BRYANS ROAD, MARYLAND

Gloria Ann Simmon, affectionately known as "Trudy" 72, peacefully departed life on Friday January 26, 2024 at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in LaPlata, MD.

Gloria was born on November 19, 1951 in Edgefield, South Carolina to Rallie and Callie Brown. She was the oldest of four children. Being born in a Christian family, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and started her early Christian walk at Pisgah Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Bryans Road, Maryland.

She attended Charles County Public Schools in Indian Head, Maryland. She graduated and received her High School Diploma from Lackey High School in June 1969. After high school, she earned an associates degree and began working as a secretary for the Department of the Navy. On May 29, 1972 she gave birth to her pride and joy, her one and only child Carterrys Orr (deceased). On February 20, 1999 she married the love of her life Burleigh Simmons (deceased).

Gloria grew up in the Seventh-day Adventist faith where she became a pivotal member. She was active, faithful, and involved in various ministries including Ushering, Pathfinders, and Youth Choir. As she grew older, she remained engaged as a devoted Sabbath School Superintendent, Assistant Clerk, Deaconess, Community Service Leader, Religious Liberty Secretary, Treasurer Assistant, AYS Leader, Community Service Outreach Ministry by orchestrating several food drives with the Southern Maryland Food Bank, managing Pisgah's food pantry and in bi-weekly food and clothes give-aways, feeding the homeless, and Genesis Nursing Home Ministry up until her health began to decline. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, traveling, cooking, knitting, and watching her soap operas. Gloria was loved by all, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was also well known in the county by mayors, commissioners, and other officials in the community.

Gloria was preceded in death by her late husband of 14 years, Burleigh Simmons, her son Carterrys Orr, her mother Callie Brown, her father Rallie Brown Jr., and her brother Roland Brown.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Paris Orr; sister Vivan Wilson; brother Christopher Brown Sr. (Deborah), Nieces; Bianca Green (Ronald), Angelle Dorsey (Delvan), Z'nia Brown; Nephews; Markus Lyles Sr. (Keyonna), Christopher Brown Jr.,Deanthony Warrick, Charles Garris, Frank Garris (Hilma), Greg Ziegler (Ann). She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of cousins, relatives, lifetime friends, and loving church family.

Her viewing will take place 10:00am until time of service 11:00am, Friday, February 9th, Pisgah Seventh Day Church, 5830 Bumpy Oak Road, Bryans Road, Maryland 20616. Interment Heritage Memorial Cemetery, Waldorf, Maryland.
