OVERBEY, GILBERT HENRY (AGE 78) OF FORT WASHINGTON, MARYLAND

On March 26, 1934 in Charlotte County, Virginia, a son was born to Daniel and Anna Thomas Overbey. His name was Gilbert Henry Overbey.

Along with his brothers and sisters, Gilbert was educated in the Virginia school system. As time moved on and he began to look for employment, Gilbert decided to move to New York to see what opportunities awaited him and eventually ended up in the Washington, D.C. area where he would spend the rest of his days.

He was a member of Mossingford Baptist Church.

Gilbert was a great support for his family. He owned his own truck and worked as a Truck Driver/ Supervisor and General Machinist. Truck driving was his passion. He was a hard worker and was able to work until his death. One of Gilbert's greatest accomplishments was to purchase his own home where he could spend time with family, something which gave him much pleasure. He also enjoyed attending family reunions, baseball games and rabbit hunting.

Gilbert was very outspoken and bold. His code of honor was to tell the truth. He believed that his word was his bond.

On Tuesday, December 10, 2012, Gilbert Henry Overbey departed this life for one eternal. He was preceded in death by parents, Daniel and Anna Thomas Overbey; his sisters, Marie, Theresa, Lucy and Ida; brothers, Jesse, Nathaniel, John, Clem, Daniel and Clayton.

Left to cherish fond memories is his sister, Vanvassel O. Terry, sister-in-law, Altea Overbey and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

His viewing will be Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:00am in the Thornton Funeral Home Chapel, Service will follow at 12:00 noon. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, Maryland.
