In Loving Memory of George Williams Taylor III
A great thinker once observed that “the true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good,” and that “a good heart is ageless and timeless.” George recently reflected on his own path, saying, “I’m not a perfect man, but I’m a good man.” He knew his true worth, his heart, and his God-given assignment, setting out on a journey to find and accomplish his life purpose.
This journey began on October 29, 1949, as George and Mattie Mae Taylor welcomed a baby boy with cute dimples and curly hair who would become their pride and joy. These loving and devoted parents embarked upon a journey in developing the person we grew to know as George Williams “Duney” Taylor III. Early in life, he learned the importance of dependability while assisting his father in the family business of selling produce in Augusta, Georgia. His father taught him to count money at a very early age, dropping him off with fruits and vegetables on a street corner—an early lesson in stewardship that prepared him for the responsibilities of being the eldest sibling and a role model.
As he matured, George’s educational roots grew from Lucy Lane Elementary to Kelly Miller Junior High and Spingarn High School, where he graduated in 1968 before attending Federal City College. During this time, his commitment to family deepened as he helped care for his father, who was stricken with multiple sclerosis. Though family circumstances led to a military exemption, his spirit of service found a home in the Metropolitan Police Department in 1969. Assigned to the Third District, George was shot while pursuing a burglary suspect, yet he felt he had more to give to God’s people and continued his watch in the Sixth District as a wagon master and desk sergeant until his retirement in 1991.
Guided by this tireless work ethic and a desire to build security for his loved ones, George transitioned into a forty-year career in real estate, serving D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. He also wore the hat of an income tax preparer, often joking that he could prepare your taxes and sell you a house. From 1997 to 2008, he served faithfully with the Georgetown University Campus Police, where his warm smile and outstanding service made him a beloved fixture of the campus community.
While he built his professional legacy, George was equally committed to cultivating a flourishing family. Along the way, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Gross, a union blessed with his son, George W. Taylor IV. His life was also enriched by his son, Nackia Taylor, born to Marjorie Barnes. On April 17, 1999, he was joined in holy matrimony with his forever love, Karen Walton-Taylor, and together their union brought Alfonzo Walton and Jasmine Taylor into their growing family.
On March 19, 2000, George sought a closer walk with God; he was baptized by Pastor John E. Reid and joined Mt. Zion Baptist in Advance Mills, Va. However, God had much work for him to do in His vineyard, and his path was directed to Clinton United Methodist Church in Clinton, Maryland, where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board. His final church home would be Mt. Ennon Baptist Church, where he continued to grow spiritually in God’s word.
Even as he continued to work for various security companies during the last stage of his career (MVM, Paragon Systems, and Capital Hotel Services) George never stopped discovering new ways to walk in his calling. He eventually returned to the soil of his youth, turning his backyard into a thriving sanctuary of vegetable beds. He found spiritual peace in tilling the land and sowing seeds for melons, corn, and sweet potatoes — not for sale, but for the joy of sharing the harvest with his friends and family. Though health issues began to mount, he never stopped growing, learning, or smiling.
On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, George completed his 76-year journey, coming full circle to rest with the Lord. He joins his parents, George and Mattie Mae Taylor, and his sisters, Barbara Taylor, Joyce Brown, Belinda Douglas, and Connie Taylor, in eternal peace.
He leaves these final words of love for those he cherished:
♥ To my Dear Karen: Thank you for loving me for me and standing with me through thick and thin; I love you with all my heart.
♥ To my children, Alfonzo Walton, Jr. (Jesynah), Nackia Taylor, George Taylor (Courtney), and Jasmine Taylor Marshall (Christopher): Thank you for the honor of being your dad and Pops; keep your hand in God’s hand and be your brother and sister’s keepers.
♥ To my siblings, David Taylor, Vanessa Taylor, Jakki Peay, Sylvester Douglas, Wanda Taylor, Curtis Lindsay, Jacqueline Lindsay, Tawana Lindsay, and Theresa Brown: You are loved for the joy and laughter we shared; keep the family strong and together.
♥ To my grandchildren, Jayden, Sontee, Gillian, Kaylah, John, Karmah, Kareem, and Savaiya: Be obedient, place God first in your life, and follow the path He has laid for you.
♥ To my extended family and friends: Your support and love have enriched my life; may God’s peace be with you.
George, a man of many hats and a sincere heart, has been welcomed by the Savior into a mansion which he can inhabit for all of eternity.
