Obituary

George Roscoe Smith (Age 76) of Pisgah, Maryland.

On Monday, December 14, 2015, George Roscoe Smith, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, peacefully departed his earthly life at Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home, Charlotte Hall, Maryland.

George was born in Pisgah, Maryland on February 21, 1939, the second youngest child of the late John and Mary Zenobia Smith.

George was a member of the St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Indian Head, Maryland and received his education through the Charles County School system. He enlisted in the U.S. Army with his best friend, Kenneth Carter, at the tender young age of 16. In the army, he was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by the federal government for over 38 years, before retiring in 1994. Not wanting to truly retire and needing to stay active, he pursued a third career in security, which provided the mobility he loved.

George enjoyed cars and cruising in his truck, good music and spending time with his family and friends. He adored his children and grandchildren and spent countless hours teaching and imparting his wisdom and advice. His famous questions - "Something on your mind? Something you want to talk about?" will always be remembered. When he said 'Come on, let's take a ride', you knew the fun was about to begin. He was a sharp dresser and was the life of any party. George was a good friend to everyone. He was generous and considerate, giving the shirt off his back, shoes off his feet and the last dollar in his pocket, if asked.

George was preceded in death by his son, Francis Xavier, brothers, John, Francis "Bobby", Frederick "Sonny", Robert "Duke", Joseph "Wimpy", sisters, Laura "Sis", and Mary "Tudie".

George leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Agnes "Jean", four children, Danette "Faye" Cartwright (Ray), Carla Chapman (James), George "Bryan" (Sheri), and Pamela "Pam" Smith; eight grandchildren Bryan, Christopher, Tony, Ronnie, Jerrod, Natalia, Natasia, and Samantha; seven great grandchildren Zavier, Janessa, Jarell, Jordynn, Janaya, Julian, and Nicholas; one sister Irma "Chick" Gray (Sonny); and one brother, Vivian "Benny" Smith, a special nephew John "JayDee" Gray (Mildred) and a host of other family and friends.
