Obituary

George Samuel Cooper, 76 of Welcome, Maryland.

On Thursday morning, September 12, 2019 at the University of Maryland, Charles Regional Medical Center in LaPlata, Maryland, George Samuel Cooper peacefully transitioned to eternal life.

George was born in McConchie, Maryland on May 21, 1943 to the late James Henry Cooper and the late Mary Regina Dunmore Harrison. George was educated in the Charles County school system.

George worked construction for 50 years and loved building all kinds of things with his hands. He was most proud of constructing his home and garage. After retirement, he worked for the Charles County Park Services. Even after he stopped formally working, he loved waking up early in the morning to enjoy his coffee as if he was preparing for a full day's work ahead.

George loved tinkering with cars and his race truck as much as working on his house. He loved hanging out with his friends at the track or in his garage. To relax, he loved sitting around watching Westerns and court shows on television, while teasing his children and grandchildren. Most of all, he loved sitting on his porch with his wife counting cars.

George was the most ever-present, reliable, loyal, and consistent man to those closest to him - his wife, children and grandchildren. To all others, he was a respected friend and neighbor.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his daughter, Victoria "Beaver" Cooper and his son, George "Terry" Cooper, his brothers, James E. Cooper, Calvin I. Cooper, Sr., Joseph S. Harrison, William Harrison, Cecil Brown, and Melvin Brown; sisters, Alice Hamilton, Bertha Gamble, Mary Proctor, Lucille Lyles, Veronica Cooper Lewis, and Doris Cooper Fountaine.

Left to cherish many loving memories are; his wife, Shirley Cooper, daughter, Sharon Cooper, son, Ellsworth Gray, grandchildren, Shyrice Mitchell, Victoria Bell and AnTony Tibbs; sister, Agnes Theresa Keys (John), brothers, Charles Cooper (Adriana) and William Brown (Denise); sisters-in law, Barbara Cooper and Judy Harrison Samuel; uncles, Francis "Frank" Cooper and Ignatius Cooper (Ruth).
