Obituary

GEORGE JEROME LEWIS (AGE 58) OF ACCOKEEK, MD.

Suddenly on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, George Jerome Lewis was called home to be with God. George was the 5th child born April 10, 1958, in Washington, DC, to the late James W. Lewis and Elizabeth C. Lewis Davis. He was greatly supported by his family, friends and relatives.

George, also known as "Georgie," lived in Accokeek, Maryland his entire life. George was a person that was deeply misunderstood. Although he faced challenges in his personal life, George is now in a better place where he can be who he wants to be and live abundantly. George knows all and sees all now and if he were here, he would be amazed and shocked at how many people loved and cared for him that he didn't even know.

As a child, George was very fond of James Brown. He would entertain his sister, brothers, grandparents and cousins by putting on a show. They were greatly entertained as he sang and danced to the to the song "Please, Please, Please." His sister, Ann or, one of his brothers would drape a towel around his shoulders as George would begin to strut his stuff. Ann or one of his brothers would follow behind him patting him on his shoulder, George would then throw off his towel and drop to his knees and sing his little heart out.

George owned a 1968 Ford mustang coupe. He enjoyed revving the engine to make sure the motor was in tip top shape. George was also known for his unique laugh.

George was educated in Saint Mary's Catholic School and the Prince George's County School system. Although George was a loner, he enjoyed his life. George was employed by Farm Services located in Accokeek, Maryland for many years as a Yard Foreman. He retired on disability after his health began to fail.

George leaves to cherish is memory: his caring, devoted and loving mother, Elizabeth C. Lewis Davis, one sister Ann E. Newman (Milton), three brothers Anthony, Thomas and Patrick (Desiree) Lewis; three nieces Krystle, Brittany and Jenelle Lewis; two nephews Terrell Lewis and Keith I. Newman. Aunts Mary Branson, Theresa Fox, Veronica Graham (James), Margaret Harris, Estelle Holmes (Colbert), Mary Ann Young (Conrad), Uncles: Charles Clagett "Butch" (Theresa), Henry Lewis "Van Dyke" and a host of relatives, too numerous to name here. Donnell Myers was a frequent visitor and great friend of George.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

George will be met in heaven by his father James W. Lewis, brother James C. Lewis (Chink), grandparents: Joseph and Edna Clagett, Alfred and Dorothy Lewis; nephew DeWayne I. Newman, Aunts: Adell Avent, Edna Mae Brown, Blanche Campbell, Uncles Anthony Clagett, Joseph Clagett, Harold "Vernon" Lewis, John F. Lewis, and Joseph M. Lewis.
