George Ellis, Jr. (Age 60) of Wilmington, Delaware
Retired STAFF SERGEANT ELLIS was born November 9, 1955 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to Peggy Jean and George Ellis, Sr. He went home to be with the Lord on October 22, 2016 in Wilmington, Delaware at age 60.
He graduated from Kosciusko High School. In July 1974 he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas where he met Alvina S. Myers. On December 17, 1977 they were married and from that union two children were born, George Ellis, III and Stephanie Patrice Vinson.
During his twenty years of honorable active duty he served as Section Chief and Cannon Platoon Leader; In 1977, he was assigned to A Battery 1st Battalion 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas; In 1981, served with A Battery 1st Battalion 321st Field Artillery 101st Airborne Division Air Assault at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; From 1992 – 1994 was selected and served as Drill Sergeant Instructor for the Field Artillery Basic Training Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
His AWARDS included: Army Accommodation Award, Good Conduct Medal, Division Artillery NCO of the Quarter, Red Lion Badge of Excellence Award and a member of Special Weapons Team.
Overseas Assignments:Greece, Korea and Germany.
He is survived by his mother, Peggy Ellis; daughter, Stephanie Vinson (Gregory); grandchildren; Sydney and Mariah Ellis, and Ellis, Matthew, and Amayah Vinson; brother, Freddy Ellis (Sylvia); Sisters, Linda Ellis, Pam Ellis, and Annette McKenzie; daughter-in-law, Kiana Ellis Northern (Micheal); numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George Ellis Sr. and son, George Ellis III.
