George Preston Countiss, 83, of White Plains, Maryland.
George Preston Countiss, was born, April 13, 1938, in Charlotte Hall, Maryland to the late Henry William Countiss and Ida Irene Woodland Countiss.
George was educated in the St. Mary's County public school system. George's carpentry skills and trade was learned from the Amish Community in St. Mary's County. He developed a love for building that followed him throughout his life.
George entered into matrimony with the love of his life, Rose Marie Bell on June 28, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bryanstown, Maryland. From that union they were blessed with seven children: George Michael (deceased), George Andrew, Sheila Marie, Walter Presten (deceased), Joseph Wayne, Gail Patricia and Lorie Ann. He was raised in the Catholic faith, but later in life joined Fort Foote Baptist Church where he was baptized.
His employment began in the 1950's when he worked in the St. Mary's County school system, Charlotte Hall School; 1960's he was a carpenter with the Amish in St. Mary's County; 1970's, he was a self-employed home builder/contractor with Homecraft Corporation "Better Homes Through Technology and Craftsmanship". George built homes throughout the southern Maryland area; 1980's he worked as a Construction Superintendent with GLM Companies, Washington, DC and from 1991 until 2013 he held the position of Facilities Supervisor with SAM's Club. George was with Sam's Club for over 20 years and his contributions earned him a President's Award for his commitment to excellence. George's ingenuity and creative skills as a builder saved the company money.
George was a wonderful husband, father, neighbor, and friend. He was loved by many. He was a great leader and enjoyed helping anyone in need. His hobbies and interests were cars, both sport cars and classic cars. He loved sports and his favorite team was the Washington Football Team. He also like baseball and spending time at the racetrack. George liked to travel and enjoyed weekend getaways with the family. He loved cooking holiday turkeys, rice pudding and baking cakes. In his earlier years, George enjoyed going to cabarets, dances, fishing, hunting deer and playing horseshoes with family and friends.
George was also a member of the "Knights of St. John."
George leaves to cherish beautiful memories, his wife, Rose Marie Countiss, children, George A. Countiss (Toni), Sheila M. Lyles (Joseph), Joseph W. Countiss (Terri), Gail P. Countiss (a friend, Robert Middleton), Lorie Countiss Washington (Andre), a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.
Viewing, 10:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Fort Foote Baptist Church, 8310 Fort Foote Road, Fort Washington, Maryland 20744. Interment, Heritage Memorial Cemetery, 13472 Poplar Hill Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601.
