Frances Millicent Lloyd Stevenson passed away at home in Temple Hills, Maryland, on September 21, 2026. She was born on January 4, 1946, in New Jersey, and lived a life centered on family, care, faith, and the quiet strength of a well-kept home.
Frances received her early education in Jamaica and later graduated from Howard University with a degree in psychology. She worked for a short time with the Social Security Administration before becoming a homemaker, a role she embraced with deep purpose and devotion. Among her proudest accomplishments was raising her children and caring for her home; work she carried out with love, discipline, and constancy.
She was known for being detail-oriented, meticulous, and organized, qualities that showed themselves early as she helped her mother grade school papers. Frances brought that same care into every part of her life. She had a strong operatic soprano voice and enjoyed singing in the Gospel Choir at St. John the Evangelist Church. She also enjoyed sewing, a skill her mother taught her, and she often made clothes for her daughter Shyrynne. For physical activity she enjoyed bike riding and playing tennis. She also loved cooking comforting foods for those she loved, including oatmeal cookies, Jamaican beef patties, and seafood casserole. Her kitchen became one of the places where family bonds were strengthened most deeply.
Family meant everything to Frances. She believed in traditions that shaped character and belonging: polite children, strong education, encouragement, and doing one’s very best in all things. She urged her children to strive for excellence and surrounded them with steady guidance and love. Holidays were especially treasured in her home, where Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve were marked by abundant food, warmth, and lessons passed from one generation to the next as she taught her children how to carry those traditions forward. Happy memories were also made on family trips to Virginia beach each summer. Moments that reflected the joy she found in simply being together.
She is survived by her brother, Reginald Lloyd; her children, Leslie McKay, Gerard, Shyrynne, and Christopher Stevenson; her grandchildren, Brion and Alexis; her church family at St. John the Evangelist Church; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will continue to cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Stevenson, and her brother, Jeoffrey Lloyd.
Those who knew Frances will remember a woman of conviction, order, talent, and generosity, whose love was often expressed through guidance, hospitality, and the traditions she held dear. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the values she instilled, and the memories gathered around her table and in her home.
