FRANCES (GOVAN) HOPKINS (AGE 89) OF WASHINGTON, DC.
Frances Hopkins transitioned to eternal life on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at her residence in Washington, DC.
Frances was born on October 26, 1927 in Winston-Salem, North
Carolina, the daughter of the late Sadie Akins and the
late Walter Govan.
As an adolescent, Frances attended Francis Junior High in Washington, DC. In 1963, she was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Alfred E. Hopkins, Sr. Frances was the mother of four children,; George, Kevin, Alfred and Sadie.
Her children describe her as a good mom and a soft spoken
disciplinarian who did the best she could to instill in them values and morals. She was a humble woman, down to earth, but sometimes stubborn in her ways.
Frances worked outside the home for a few years providing cleaning services. It was during this time that she met a friend for life, Pat. Frances actively attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Washington, DC until her health began to fail and could no longer do so. However, it did not stop her love for the Lord, His word and gospel music. "Amazing Grace" was one of her favorites. Among other things, Frances loved watching Judge Judy and Family Feud. Although she didn't have a favorite team, she also enjoyed watching the game of football along with other sports. Frances enjoyed and took pride in preparing meals for holiday gatherings with her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frances is also preceded in death by her siblings, Whilemina Duvall, Ritha, Walter, Norman and Clarence Govan and daughter-in-law,Jacqueline Ceophas .
Left to cherish her love are her children George R. Ceophas, Kevin
Adams, Alfred Hopkins, Jr. and Sadie Adams; grandchildren George, Jr. and David, great grandchildren, Gianna and Kevin, daughter-in-law, Cynthia Adams and sister, Barbara Walker. Frances will also be missed by a host of other relatives.
