Obituary

Floyd Lee Powell Sr. was born in Emporia, Virginia, Friday, April 6, 1934.  He transitioned to eternal life, Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Washington, D.C. at the age of 84.

Floyd joined the United States Air Force, November 12, 1953 at the age of 19 as a Petroleum Supply Specialist.  His first tour was at Westover AFB, in Chicopee, Massachusetts.  During this tour he met and married Barbara Ann Bolden.  His second tour was at Walker AFB, Roswell, New Mexico.  Floyd's final tour was at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington DC.  During his tours he earned The Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Metal. He served a total of nine years and was honorably discharged, December 10, 1962.

Floyd continued his career with the federal government working at the Pentagon, in Arlington, Virginia.

Floyd was a man full of humor, who had a way of making you laugh, getting you to join in on a song that he made up, while pretending to hold a microphone in his hand, and imitating James Brown dance moves.  He was an entertainer at heart. He loved music, always playing Jazz and Blues from his album collection. He was also a dapper dresser, his preferred attire was spit shined shoes, laundered white shirts and Shark Skin suits. His humor, way of dressing, and love for Jazz and the Blues is shown through his children in one way or another.

Floyd Lee Powell Sr. is survived by his six children, Cheryl Deene Hurd, Joyce Marie Gooden, Floyd Lee, Jr., Michele Alise Bastaldo, Guy Aaron Powell, and Jill Ann Cloud, 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, a few great-great grandchildren, six sisters, Mary, Diane Tucker, Gwendolyn King, Claudia Taylor, Yvette Rawlings, and Marilyn Magee.

Floyd Lee Powell, Sr. you will never be forgotten, you will live in our hearts for eternity.
