Florine Irma "Flo" Mason Hawkins

Flo was born on July 25, 1947, to the late Mary Penny and James Mason. She was raised and loved by the late Mary "Peggy" and Ricard "Dick" Lewis in Indian Head, MD. Flo transitioned on December 10, 2022, to eternal peace.  She received her education in the Charles County Public Schools. Flo was united in holy matronly to John M. Hawkins and from this union 5 children were born. As a young couple they enjoyed going to the Pisgah Boo Boo's baseball games and being an avid Washington Redskins fan and spending lots of time with their children and family. Flo was a homemaker taking care of her children and later became employed with Physician Memorial Hospital as an OB Technician, she assisted in the birth of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After 40 years of service, she retired in 2018 from University of Maryland Charles Regional Center. Flo enjoyed her co-workers from 1-East, cooking and was known for famous potato salad and going out listening to music, dancing and being the life of the party.

Flo was proceeded in death by her parents Mary "Peggy" Lewis, Richard "Dick" Lewis and James Mason, her husband John M Hawkins, brothers Larry "Butch" Mason, Francis "Leroy" Travers, infant sister Mary Mason

Flo leaves to cherish her memories two daughters Denette Renfroe, Denell Warren, three sons Darrell Sr., Dwain Sr., (Pam) and Derrick (Angelic) Hawkins, 13 grandchildren Dwain Jr., Danielle, Darius, Darrell Jr., Davonna, Da'Nae, Brandon, DaNisha, Brianna, David III, Marcus, Dinari, Dakyrai and 6 great grandchildren KaMyah, Avaion, Kalayah, Durran III, King, and D'Angelo

Four sisters Marva (Jerome) Day, Deborah Koonce, Deidre (Norman) Reid, Leslie (Perry) Taylor and seven brothers Kenny (Tracy) Mason, Leroy (Mary) Mason, Richard (Denise) Lewis, Michael (Wanda) Lewis, Rickey (Pam) Penny, James (Bonita) Lewis, Carlton "Spunky" (Debbie) Penny, four sisters-in-law, Ruth Hawkins, Margaret Hawkins, MaryAnn Hardy, Rania Travers and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Devoted lifelong friends Rose Haywood, Edna Johnson, Tommy Holmes, Jane Badger, Nelly Barbour.

Viewing, 10:00 a.m. until time of the Life Celebration, 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 23, 2022 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment, Smith Chapel Cemetery, 7750 Poorhouse Rd, La Plata, MD 20646
