Eugene Melvin Brown, Age 66 of Bel Alton, Maryland.
"REFLECTIONS OF LIFE"
On Tuesday, June 7, 2016, in the early morning, God called his child Eugene "Melvin" Brown from labor to reward after an extensive illness. He was surrounded by his loving fiancée, Maxine and best friend, Melvin Myles.
Melvin was born October 20, 1949, in Washington, D.C. to the late Eugene A. and Frances L. Brown. At an early age he was christened into the Catholic faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He later joined St. Matthews United Methodist Church where he was a faithful member until his homegoing.
He was educated in the LaPlata, MD school system – attending Port Tobacco Elementary, Bel Alton and Archbishop Neale Jr. High Schools; and LaPlata High School where he excelled in sports.
In l968, Melvin was drafted to serve in the United States Army. Upon his discharged, he worked at Penn Jersey Auto, CSS and ABS Cable Companies. Using the knowledge and skills he learned while working for the cable companies, in 1980, he started his own cable business - "MBB Cabling". Melvin's successfully installed cables for many businesses and homeowners until he retired because of failing health.
Melvin was gifted to play music by ear. He played the base guitar with groups such as "The Dynamic Corvette's, "The Chosen Few", "The New Corvette's", the "Harmonies of Faith", and "sat-in" with many other bands when requested. At St. Matthews, Melvin enjoyed playing for the United Men for Christ. Melvin's was a very giving person and if necessary, he would give you his last.
He will be dearly missed by many, especially Maxine, his fiancée whom he dearly loved. She was always by his side; his family, including his nieces who called his name like they were singing, "Uncle Melvin"… Melvin's "good" friends, were never just friends, he loved them as family and they returned the same love to him.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory: Fiancée, Edwina "Maxine" Bowman, sister, Mary Hilda (Rev. Larry Jones), two sons, Michael Swailes and Aaron; daughter, Jacqueta (John) Lewis III, Shavon Bowman, Grant (Shaquita) Bowman, Geraldine E. Brown, sister-in-law; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
